I have started week 4’s clue. I am surprised at the negative comments. It’s a mystery – and I don’t know how anyone can say they aren’t impressed – we don’t know where we are going with this! Don’t judge, just go with the flow, and enjoy the ride! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you for all that you do, Mikey and The Crowd. I love you all!

Could not agree more, Laura. It’s way too early to know how we like the appearance of this project. Not crazy about loose ends to weave in, but that is not unexpected with a multi-step project.

I have all 20 squares done from week one and week two. i have not really been impressed with the simply soft yarn. Wish I would have purchased some other yarn. After clue for week three came out, I really started to not like this design at all. I did one. I will wait until clue four to decided whether to go on. This was first mystery crochet project. I was excited to do one. I have done mystery quilt challenges before and not been this disappointed ever. I may do them from now one after I see the finsihed project. Thanks any way

Question for week 3. In the video tutorial, Mickey uses 2 different colors which I assume are c and d. The written instructions say b and c. Just checking to make sure b and c are correct after ghe gkitch on the size of the squares in week 1.

Does gauge matter? What size should each square be? There wasn’t a size listed on pattern. Thanks. I’m a new to crochet, I’ve never done granny squares. I don’t know anyone who crochets to ask, so I am using combination of all, written pattern, chart and especially video to learn. I’ve been trying to crochet along with video, but you are a little faster than me. I’ve made about 20 so far practicing this square. I WILL BE READY when my yarn gets here! I am already enjoying this,!

      Hi Bonnie,
That’s part of the mystery! and not sure if you are new to Crochet Crowd website, but I promise you that Mikey has picked out a very interesting afghan for us to do. If you register on Yarnspirations they give you a lot of color schemes that they feel will look really good for the afghan and you can choose your own colors too. Hopefully, seeing the colors will give you an idea of what the finished project may look like!

The whole point of this project is that no one knows the final outcome of the afghan until the end of the CAL. I had some difficulty picking out my colors as well, and you can see I left a comment a couple of weeks ago that has since been ignored. I chose the colors I liked best together, but I am still waiting on an answer to my question. I hope this helped! ๐Ÿ™‚

I posted a comment before, right after the website came back up from the crash/hack. However, I don’t see it here now, and haven’t had any response. I asked if the colors for B, C, & D were being used equally in the pattern. I don’t want anything ruined about the mystery. I would just like to know for my own planning. I have a few different options I’d like to do, although, it depends on the complimentary colors for the afghan. If they are all equally used, that is fine by me. However, for example, if we use more of C than B and D, and more of B than D, it would help me to choose which colors will be for each letter. I understand the amounts we have to buy (4 skeins of A, and 2 each of B, C, & D). I just wanted a little more detail for the actual amounts used of each so I can choose my colors selections accordingly. Thanks!

If you look at the Bernat yarn option it calls for 6-A, 3-B, 3-C and 2-D.

My assumption from this is that we may use slightly less of color D than the others.

Hi there! I realize we’re supposed to get 4 skeins of our main, and 2 skeins of 3 other colors. I got my main one already, and 2 skeins of my second color, but I was wondering if we’ll need the full 12oz of the other colors, or if a skein and a half would be enough? Thanks!

Hi, just looking at some yarn substitutions (I live in Switzerland!), and wondered if the yardage is the important factor here? Which may sound like a silly question, but I noticed that there is quite a difference in yardage between the Caron and Bernat selections given on the Yarnspirations website…or am I missing something?? Thanks!

I never worked with a gauge before. I’ve always used red heart yarn with a J or K hook. if I used that instead of an H hook would I be able to have the right gauge? This was not coordinated well at all withYarnspirations. If the color scheme was plotted it by then they should have made sure yarn was in stock an available for order. I had to get replacement colors and while they did bend over backwards to accommodate me , I am not at all happy with my main color. Hi Lou, I’m sorry that you aren’t happy with your main colour. I think one of the ‘lessons’ I learned (this is my first CAL) is to do some comparison shopping. After I had ordered my items, saw the next morning that another large craft store was having a huge sale. We are lucky the designers chose a well known brand like Carons so it would have been much less expensive for me if I had purchased elsewhere. I also learned Yarnspirations is Canadian, so I also had shipping and handling, where my other order qualified for free S/H. Anyway, I am very excited to start and hope to find an experienced crochet buddy for motivation ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve crocheted (actively) for about a year, my mom taught me the basics when I was a young girl but no time til now. Hope you are happy once your colours arrive in person <3. All my best, BunnyCakes

Thank for responding to Lou. You should know yes, Yarnspirations is Canadian, in fact, it’s close to my home here… The products for Yarnspirations actually ships out of the USA. SO even if I order it online here in Canada, it will come from the states to get to me.

The ETENT Yarn is Canadian and does come out of Canada.

Hi Doreen, my order arrived today, taking 7 calendar days. It was well packaged ๐Ÿ™‚ I opted to choose my own colour scheme, as I am hoping to display my work as a wall hanging (if it works out). I decided to order a few “extra” colours so when they arrive, I can decide which blend best comparing with my home and lighting. Happy to say, I love my extra colours and am almost tempted to make a second one using the ‘seconds.’ I am sure you will be ok and happy with your colours. All my best, BunnyCakes
