In case you haven’t noticed, Minions I believe are the next craze for this year. I can tell many of our fans are now going into minion overload to produce things based around the Minion craze. Many fans are intending on selling their finishing Minion products too.
So here’s my blunt and honest opinion, take what you need from this advice and if you don’t like it… it’s okay too!
If you are going to do Minions and you want a hope to sell your finished products, your Minion ideas need to be refined to the point where people are spastic about it. Let’s not be in denial that some of the Minion ideas are just so over the top cute verses others that are okay but lack expression or extra time investment to refine the final details.
The first thing to a sale is emotional connection. That is done through the finished product that people will see. Here are some thoughts:
- Does your Minion have a 3D quality or is it flat? 3D quality appears to be really popular verses the flat looking versions.
- Does it have an expression or reminder in some way to a specific character in the movie?
- Have you gone over the top in providing that bit of extra that really define a Minion? Things could be a smirk that is placed just right, hairdoo is carefully done and thought out and/or even that the goggles look pretty realistic done in crochet, of course.
I am bad for trying to skip ahead in projects and Diva Dan makes me go back and add a few extra finishing points to a project such as this. A few extra embellishments on a Minion project will take you above the rest of the people who are just doing the minimal looks of their projects.
I’ve done this plenty of times where I will do a project and then change my mind. Remove my embellishments and try again. So if you have done a Minion Hat and it’s not selling, you could always carefully remove the extras from the hat and refine the facial features and try again.
Here’s a list of free minion patterns too! There’s actual pattern for goggles in the list. You may want to review that and see how it is done! 🙂 Enjoy
