Just recently discovered The Crochet Crowd. I’m a knitter and a crocheter (aka: hooker) and I’ve discovered that crocheting is easier on my shoulder (the weight of a heavy project on those needles can sure give me some pain), so I’ve really gotten into the crochet. I enjoy your website and I like the patterns so far. Could not get the Luster Sheen in my area so I substituted another yarn (sock) and I had a good time with the pattern. I know using a different yarn makes me ineligible for the contest but that is ok with me, I’m just in it for the fun of it. Have fun on your cruise and in the meantime keep the good times rolling for all of us hookers. Also, thank you so much for the recent Yank patterns and keep up the tidbits on Canadian life. I enjoy that a lot.

Jeanne, you can use whatever yarn you want! 🙂 Check it out here: http://thecrochetcrowd.com/market-bag-challenge/ it says
” You may use any yarn you wish. You may substitute your yarn for any brand or colors that you desire. You may create any color scheme. Use as many or as little colours as you prefer.”
So have fun and happy hooking!

Welcome to Mikey’s Hookers!! You’re gonna love Mikey… he’s adorable! Being part of The Crochet Crowd is a very positive experience, and everyone is very supportive! 🙂

My story is similar to yours! I learned to knit at the age of 13. After I retired at age 62, I started watching crochet videos (I couldn’t read the patterns). It is so much faster than knitting! Then I found Mikey!

From the posts I’ve seen, the Red Heart Luster Sheen is hard to find, unless you are willing to order it online and wait for it. I don’t want to wait that long to start my Challenge. 🙂
I searched 3 craft stores and couldn’t find it anywhere. I wound up using a 3-weight yarn I found in my closet that was from Hobby Lobby. Most of the challenges let you use any compatible yarn. I think since it’s a Red Heart sponsored website, they are just suggesting their own brand.
