The following are instructions for a border for a typical granny square. Many crocheters decide to do one large granny square instead of doing multiple and sewing them together. My personal goal was to come up with several designs that can be applied to a typical granny square.

Instructions Granny Square Itself

The instructions are for changing colour as indicated in the Christmas Granny Square Afghan as found on Yarnspirations. You can change colours as often or as little as you wish.

Instructions for the This Border

This border reminds me of Raggety Anne and Andy Dolls. It was my inspiration for this design. This consists of only 1 revolution around. So your border will be thick and frilly and done in one sweep around your afghan. This can be done in solid granny afghans too.

Each loop consists of single crochet, ch 10, single crochet into the same stitch.

  1. Fasten onto any ch-3 space, ch 1, sc into the same space, ch 10, sc into the same space, sc, ch 10, sc into the same space, sc into the same space, ch 10, sc into the same space. There should be 3-ch-10 loops in the corner. In each stitch and ch-1 space along the sides,  *sc, ch10, sc into the same stitch. In corners, treat it like 3 stitches and do three ch-10 loops. Repeat * around and fasten off by slip stitching into the first sc. Weave in ends.
