Newborn to 3 Months Baby Crochet Booties Pattern + Photographic Tutorial

These super sweet crochet sneakers are baby booties sized for newborn to 3 months. Each of them takes about 1 hour to complete, and with the right colouring, you can make them customized to the family that will be gifted these crochet baby bootie sneakers.

The pattern was updated on June 30, 2025, to include changing the yarn to Red Heart Soft Baby Steps. The prototype was using Caron One Pound. The changed version is much softer for the baby's feet.

A matching blanket for this yarn is this following blanket.

The left and right sides are the same, as with the baby booties, so the foot shaping doesn't matter so much. If you put an emblem on the side, just put it on one side and the side that is considered outside if the baby is wearing them. Remember, with anything buttons and babies, I would recommend extremely strong upholstery thread.

    Instructions

Crocheting the bottom of the sole. The starting and stopping point of the sole is at the heel.

    With A, ch 12.

1st rnd: RS. 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in next 7 ch. 1 hdc in next ch. 2 hdc in next ch. 5 hdc in last ch. Working into the opposite side of the foundation chain, 2 hdc in next ch, 1 hdc in next ch, 1 sc in next 7 ch. 2 sc in last ch. Join with sl st to first sc. 28 sts.

2nd rnd: Ch 1. 2 sc in same st as join. 1 sc in next 9 sts. (1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) 3 times. 1 sc in next 10 sts. 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in last st. Join with sl st to first sc. 33 sts.

3rd rnd:  Ch 1. 2 sc in same st as join. 1 sc in next 10 sts, (1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) 4 times. 1 sc in next 12 sts. 2 sc in next st. 1 sc in last st. Join with sl st to first sc. 39 sts.

Bottom sole of the crochet baby booties.

4th rnd: Ch 1. 1 hdcbp around each post around. Join with sl st to beg hdcbp. 39 hdcbp. Do not fasten off.

    Side of Sole

1st rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each hdcbp st around. Join with sl st to beg sc. Break A. 39 sc.

Prepare the sole with stitch markers. The front of the sole is the side that has the half double crochets done in the 1st rnd.

    1. Look straight down and mark the centre single crochet at the front of the sole with a stitch  marker.
    2. Count 3 single crochet over on each side side from the centre marker and mark both locations with a stitch marker.

Caution: Look at it again and ensure the 7 stitches that are used are directly in the front of the sole. The tongue of the sneaker will be using those 7 stitches.

Location of the stitch markers on the front of the sole.

    Crochet the Tongue

Crochet Baby Booties Designed by Mikey

1st row: With RS facing, attach B with standing single crochet to back loop of the first marked sc. 1 sc in remaining back loops to the last stitch marker. Turn. 7 sc.

2nd to 13th rows: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st across. Turn. 7 sc.

Using the stitch markers, you place the tongue at the front of the sole.
Using the back loops only, you maintain a lip that goes around the booty for visual appeal.

    Ankle and Back of Booty

Remove the centre stitch marker only.

You will crochet back and forth in rows. For the first row, you will use the same back loop of the first marked stitch. You will circle to the back of the heel and finish on the other marked stitch.

Using the same stitches that the tongues use, crochet around the back loop only to the other side.

1st row: RS facing and use first marked stitch that the tongue is currently using. With B, join with a standing single crochet to the back loop same stitch. 1 sc in each back loop to the last stitch that is marked with a stitch marker. Turn. 34 sc.

TIP: We will now be creating an angle for the sides of the sneakers to follow.

2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in the first sc. Sc2tog. Sc across until you have just 3 sc sts left. Sc2tog. 1 sc in last sc. Turn. 32 sc.

3rd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in the first sc. Sc2tog. Sc across until you have just 3 sc sts left. Sc2tog. 1 sc in last sc. Turn. 30 sc.

4th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in the first sc. Sc2tog. Sc across until you have just 3 sc sts left. Sc2tog. 1 sc in last sc. Turn. 28 sc.

5th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in the first sc. Sc2tog. Sc across until you have just 3 sc sts left. Sc2tog. 1 sc in last sc. Turn. 26 sc.

6th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in the first sc. Sc2tog. Sc across until you have just 3 sc sts left. Sc2tog. 1 sc in last sc. Turn. 24 sc.

The sides grow upward but reduce on the edges, so there is an angle to follow the foot's shape.

7th to 11th rows: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st across. Turn. 24 sc. Fasten off B at the end of the 11th row.

Sides are completed with the tongue in front.

    Edgings

Tongue: RS facing. With A, attach with a standing single crochet. Evenly sc around three sides of the tongue. Fasten off.

Crochet around the 3 sides of the tonque evenly crocheting to make it look nicer.
Followed around, it thickens up the tongue to be tucked inside the baby booties.

    Side & Ankle Edging

With A and RS facing, join with a standing single crochet to the edge just after the tongue. Evenly space sc up the angle, around the back, and down the other angle. Fasten off.

Follow the edging of the sides up and around the back and down the other side.
Evenly space the stitches around. Don't add extra for the top corner turns.
Be a bit critical of the spacing, as it's undeniable if you add or skip too many stitches.
Carefully weave in the ends as the user of the booties will not want to be tangled in yarn tails.
Booties are ready for laces. The spacing of the laces is up to you, but use the same stitch holes as the edging you did.

    Lace

You can lace all the way to the top, but it may be harder to get them on and off.

With C, ch 91. Fasten off.

Use the stitches where the edging was to weave in the laces like regular shoes.
