The Crochet Crowd is an adult-based platform and has been since the idea was conceived in 2008. It's in the 'About' section on YouTube, our largest platform, and anyone following tends to understand that really quickly.
My family upbringing is related to my personality of practicing innuendos non-stop, as my parents would communicate with double entredres. It's what makes me laugh. Humour that I can see coming, I tend not to laugh or giggle at. Surprise humor gets me every time.

Suppression of Personality
I've never had kids and was a step-parent for a brief time frame, and it was very difficult to suppress what makes me laugh and the adjective and verb choices of the English language.
In the very beginning, a few months after launching YouTube, I did my best to suppress myself, but I didn't recognize myself on camera. I'm missing who I am as a person.
Being raised by a parent from the UK, you may already understand that the UK has a more relaxed nature to its humor. It can be crass, direct, and loaded with innuendo.
It can be offensive, sarcastic, and make you think twice about what you heard. Lucy, above, explains it probably more effectively than I have heard it described.
A glance, a raise of an eyebrow, or a twisted face to suggest there is more to the story and you can fill in the blanks.
Humour Doesn't Always Land
My humor doesn't always land where I think it may, or if I have an immediate reaction to something, my inner voice comes out of my mouth. It can be shocking and even surprising to me as well.
If I am being heckled during a teaching moment or live presentation, I tend to give a quick, knee-jerk quip in response to the heckle, rather than feeling isolated in my own moment.
Humour Can Be Offensive
It can definitely be offensive, as humor can be very relatable to personal situations. However, it depends on the listener on where they are and how they perceive it for themselves.
In humor, people can take it so personally when it's not intended.
An example of something like this: I can joke that my family was destroyed when I came out of the closet, as I have lived through it, but for others, their family could have been their solid rock foundation, and the thought of it is triggering. So what I am making light out of, as I have moved on and am still functioning, is that they are not there yet.
Trying To Be Authentic
In person, I am a lot more relaxed and flow with life. Online, I'm a bit more sensitive and guarded, but the 'real Mikey' tends to slip out from time to time.
I prefer not to teach children due to my stories and outlook on life. I make no secret of it. I have learned over the years that usually a parent has two sides to their personality. One is more cautious around kids, and the other lets it all hang out.
For myself, I am what I am, and I don't have reason, in person, to be guarded and therefore don't practice having a white-glove side of my personality.
It's either a positive or a negative, depending on your perspective. And yes, it can get me in trouble.
