    Crochet Bright Future Blanket Pattern + Tutorial

    The Crochet Bright Future Blanket is the next evolution of yarn, with 100% recycled yarn. This is a chenille-based yarn, much thinner than Bernat Blanket, called Bernat Future Hope.

    I really enjoyed the way this yarn feels when crocheting through the example. I sized this big enough for someone going off to college or university and taking a piece of home with them. The printed pattern includes a crochet diagram that is not shown in this article.

    This product is sold at Walmart USA in various colours. The colours seen below are no longer available. You will have to substitute.

    This is a simple repeat of the Crochet Zig Zag Pip Stitch, and a tutorial with a scarf is shown at the bottom. Just substitute the starting chain with the blanket version to adjust.

    Walmart USA and Yarnspirations have different shades. Both colours shown here are no longer available. Find a substitution. 

    Bernat Future Hope, 6oz/170g, 333yds/305m

    • A - Blue - 3 Balls 
    • B - Gold - 1 Ball

    Hook: 5 mm / H/8 

    Gauge: 13 sc and 14 rows = 4” [10 cm]

    Size: 36” x 46” Long

    Abbreviations

    • Beg = Begin(ning) 
    • Begdc2tog = Ch 2. 1 dc in next ch-1 sp. 
    • Ch(s) = Chain(s)
    • Dc = Double Crochet
    • Dc2tog = Double Crochet 2 Together
    • Rep = Repeat 
    • Rnd = Round
    • RS = Right Side 
    • Sc = Single Crochet
    • Sk = Skip
    • Sl st = Slip Stitch
    • St(s) = Stitch(es)

    Instructions - Body of Blanket

    With A, ch 134. (Stitch multiple is 4 chs + 2.)

    1st row: RS. 1 sc 2nd ch from hook. *Ch 1, sk next ch, 1 sc in next ch. Rep from * across. Turn. 133 sts. 

    2nd row: Begdc2tog. Ch 1. *Dc2tog using same sp as last leg of previous st and using next ch-1 sp. Ch 1. Rep from * across to last ch-1 sp. Dc2tog using same sp as last leg of previous st and last sc in row. Turn. 133 sts. 

    3rd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first st. 1 sc in next ch-1 sp. *Ch 1, sk next dc2tog, 1 sc in next ch-1 sp. Rep from * across. 1 sc in last begdc2tog st. Turn. 133 sts. 

    4th row: Ch 3 (counts as dc). Dc2tog using the very first st of the row and the next ch-1 sp. *Ch 1. Dc2tog using same sp as last leg of previous st and using next ch-1 sp. Rep from * across to last ch-1 sp. Dc2tog using same sp as last leg of previous stitch and using last sc in the row. 1 dc in same last st of row. Turn. 133 sts. 

    5th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first st. Ch 1, sk next dc2tog st. *1 sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, sk next dc2tog. Rep from * across. 1 sc in dc. Turn. 133 sts. 

    Rep 2nd to 5th rows, changing the colours is suggested below. 

    Colour Cycle Throughout Blanket

    Continue with A until 29 rows are complete. 

    Switch to B for 8 rows. 

    Switch to A for 16 rows. 

    Switch to B for 8 rows. 

    Switch to A for 29 rows. Fasten off.

    Border

    1st rnd: With A, join to any corner with sl st. Ch 1. 2 sc in same corner. 1 sc evenly to the next corner. *3 sc in corner, 1 sc evenly to the next corner. Rep * around. 1 sc in beg corner. Join with sl st to beg sc. 

    2nd rnd: Ch 1. 2 sc in same st as join. 1 sc in each st across to the next corner stitch. *3 sc in corner st, 1 sc in each st to the next corner. Rep from * around. 1 sc in beg corner. Join with sl st to beg sc. Break A. 

    3rd rnd: With B, join to any corner st with sl st. Ch 1. 2 sc in same st as join. 1 sc in each st across to the next corner stitch. *3 sc in corner st, 1 sc in each st to the next corner. Rep from * around. 1 sc in beg corner. Join with sl st to beg sc. 

    4th & 5th rnds: Ch 1. 2 sc in same st as join. 1 sc in each st across to the next corner stitch. *3 sc in corner st, 1 sc in each st to the next corner. Rep from * around. 1 sc in beg corner. Join with sl st to beg sc. Fasten off at the end of the 5th rnd. 

    PRINT PATTERN

    Tutorial

    The Crochet Crayon Scarf tutorial uses this same stitch. Chain the number suggested in the blanket pattern when creating the blanket.
