Caron Marshmallow Cakes came out, and based on the colors — some solid, others really funky — I wondered what a cheerful, chaotic vibe pillow would look like.
The colors are cohesive, and with the right stitches, it almost works like the background of a painting or something. The coloring of this reminds me of Eternia sky color from He-Man cartoons.

The Right Stitches
I surfed through my stitches and thought that, based on the coloring, a stitch that isn't just a single stitch would be really good. Like, for example, just straight single crochet or double crochet. It needed something more. I settled on the Sedge Stitch really quickly.
The stitch itself makes it feel like you have sponge-painted the color.

Instructions
Panels - Make 2
Ch 47. (Multiple of 3 chs + 2)
1st row: RS. 1 sc 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch across. TUrn. 46 sc.
2nd row: Ch 1. (1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc) all in first st. *Sk 2 sts, (1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc) all in next st. Rep from * across. Sk 2 sts. 1 sc in last st. Turn. 46 sts.
3rd to 32nd rows: Ch 1. (1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc) all in first st. *Sk 2 sts, (1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc) all in next st. Rep from * across. Sk 2 sts, 1 sc in last st. Turn. 46 sts.
Fasten off at the end of the 32nd row. The panel will be 12.5" tall. You will want the panel to stretch slightly, so don't match the 14" pillow size, measurement-wise.
Join Panels
Stack the panels so WS are facing each other.
1st rnd: Join yarn with sl st in the corner, going through both panels. 2 sc in the same sp as the join. Evenly sc to next corner. (3 sc in corner. Evenly sc to the next corner.) twice. 3 sides are joined.
Insert pillow into pocket. Continue to sc across to trap the pillow instead. 1 sc in same beg corner sp. Weave in ends.
Two Panels - Not Identical
I only used one ball of yarn and made no effort to match the yarn between the panels; based on that ball, I don't think it's possible anyway. Each side will have its own color-transitioning look. I quite like the outcome.

I can show you how easy this stitch truly is. Watch the tutorial below.
