Pattern was just updated in June 2024 with some new stitch work and change of colour to Shadowberry in Caron Big Cakes yarn. It was originally green called Mint Fudge.

The basket is double-stranded to create a marled look for yarn. The video below shows how I double-strand my project on both the outside and inside of the cake at the same time.

    Yarn

Caron Big Cakes - One Ball in the colour called Shadowberry

    5 mm / H/8 hook.

Create this basket using the inside and outside strands of the same ball.

    Abbreviations

    • Beg = Begin
    • Ch = Chain
    • Rep = Repeat

    • Sl St = Slip Stitch
    • Sp = Space
    • Cl = Cluster - Dc 3 tog in same stitch.
    • Bs = Bead Stitch - Dc in next st, yo around same dc post just created - 3 times. Yo and pull through all but final loop. Yo and pull through final two loops.

This project was inspired by the Marled Basket, which uses Caron Big Cakes. Instead of creating a rotational stepping look, I was inspired by the bead stitch and clusters to create the look. The basket is 11" x 5.5" tall.

I blocked my basket and sprayed it with starch for the finishing touches. It's now great as a coffee table accessory or storage container made by you.

Great pattern! Easy to follow, worked up quickly, and enough variety in the stitches that kept me from getting bored. I also used the suggestion of using the ends from 1 cake to mark the yarn. It worked great until I came across a huge mess of knotted and tied ends in the cake . I’m pleased with the results (although hardly perfect).
I used the Caron big cake in Vanilla Bean.

Hand-crocheted yarn basket perfect for home decor and storage.

If your tension is good, it should stand on its own.
