This new crochet blanket, designed by Mikey, uses the crochet arrow stitch, spaced out from each other, with relief provided by single crochet rows between the fun stitches. This blanket uses single crochet, cross-over stitches and simple bean stitches. This pattern may be more effective in its presentation if it were a solid colour yarn instead of changing colour so frequently. Perhaps Bernat Blanket yarn would be better.
Mikey changed to a simple bean stitch instead of a regular one to make the yarn last longer, since it's one extra step that uses up more yarn if you were to do it.
Crochet Diagram is Included
The download version includes a crochet diagram to take you through the 1st to the 19th rows and shows the repeating pattern.
In one section, the arrows point left, and in the next section, the arrows point right. We didn't want the arrows to point in the same direction throughout the blanket. The back-and-forth is more equal in visual terms.

Abbreviations
- Beg = Begin(ning)
- Ch(s) = Chain(s)
- Rep = Repeat
- RS = Right Side
- Sbs = Simple Bean Stitch. Insert hook in next st, YO and pull up a loop (2 loops on hook), YO in same stitch and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook), YO and pull through 3 loops only. YO and pull through last two loops.
- Sk = Skip
- Sp(s) = Space(es)
- St(s) = Stitch(es)
- Treble = Treble
Notes
- Chain 2 at the beginning of the rows doesn’t count as a stitch.
- Allow the colours to come out of the ball, as is. There was no colour strategy, and it just let the yarn play itself out.
- Stitch multiple is 6 chains.
- The simple bean stitch is considered only a portion of the regular bean stitch. It uses less yarn, making the ball last longer.
- The colour coding shows that the arrow stitching rows are identical in their orientation.
. A regular bean stitch is as follows, to compare the difference:
- Bean stitch. Insert hook in next st, YO and pull up a loop (2 loops on hook), YO in same stitch and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook), YO in same stitch once more and pull up a loop (6 loops on hook), YO and pull through 5 loops only. YO and pull through last two loops.
Sizing Tips
In the sample below, we have 101 stitches across. To figure out the number of simple bean stitches or even the number of posts when there is a ch-1 that separates stitches, such as the moss stitch used in row 2 or the simple bean stitch in row 6.
The calculation is easy if you are changing the blanket's width. You need to stay within the stitch multiple assigned in a pattern.
Calculations
Mikey includes his calculations for determining the changes when you change the width in the download.
