Coming later in 2026 is the Crochet Snowflake Compass Blanket Stitch Along featuring Bernat Blanket yarn. This is the first time I have ever designed a snowflake intended to attach to the background as it is made.
The snowflake lifts off the surface, with a stunning, textured, three-dimensional look.

In This Project
You can try a different design of mine. The tutorial and written pattern are available. The Crochet Scandinavian Snowflake Blanket. I designed and crocheted this entire sample in the Caribbean on a deck chair over the course of a week.

The Brief To Be Achieved
Originally, Yarnspirations requested a design for a stitch-along, and I used Bernat Harmony yarn, but the snowflake concept wasn't working. They gave me free rein for the design, but I could tell more than halfway through the slow process that I wasn't feeling the pride of making it. You can see me working on the original sample here.
I Self-Rejected to Avoid Humiliation
The snowflake was great, and so was the background, but the yarn was the wrong choice. So I had to quit it. I had to switch focus completely, change my thinking 1000%, and start all over again.
I was assigned to use either Bernat Harmony or Bernat Cottage. Neither yarn is good for this snowflake design, as they are too busy in transition. Great design, but not for what I was doing. I knew Yarnspirations would absolutely say no to this design.
For 'stitches and giggles', I tried the sample again in Bernat Blanket, but it wasn't the yarn assigned for the brief; I got to see my design more clearly. In Bernat Blanket, the square itself is 27" x 27". It's huge but also a focal point of an accessory.
I went back to the drawing board, started fresh with a new concept, and came up with the Crochet Study of Staying Put Blanket instead.
About the Square
The Square is done in two parts. The snowflake is created first. The background is built around the center of the snowflake, and as the square gets bigger, the snowflake's loops automatically get pinned back into the background to hold it.
I know from experience that asking crocheters to sew a snowflake onto a background would fail miserably. Hell, I wouldn't want to do that either. I know myself.
Deletion of Pattern
Like a moron, I did all of the crochet diagram work, and when I began the new design, I overwrote the original file and deleted my work. It's been a couple of days, and I am still not over my stupidity and hours and hours of wasted time. My stomach has been in knots over it.
Design in Progress
Right now, I don't know the yarn quantities to share with you, as I am still working on the entire blanket. I filmed Parts 1 and 2 of the stitch-along, and Part 2 was a disaster. I needed my visual notes to show people, but I no longer have them. I can release Part 1 to the Journey Membership, but the 2nd part and subsequent parts need to wait while I redo my work.
Stay tuned; more to come as things develop.
