Free Crochet Sweater Pattern
Hot on my hook this week is the Ruffle Collar Cardigan Pattern by Red Heart. I am challenged by getting more samples done for Creativ Festival for the October 2013 show. I want our mannequins to have samples of finished products in which we sell the same yarn. This yarn is called Red Heart Changes. It’s a favourite of mine within the Red Heart Collection of yarns. I’m doing mine in black but it has the same yarn characteristics of textures.
My problem is that I read the directions quickly and then I think I know where I am in the instructions and then continue. Meanwhile, I may have skipped a line or I didn’t read the line entirely to see there was more to the crochet row. This is NOT A COMPLICATED design. I started the back panel 3 times before finally getting it right. What’s so complicated about easy HDC’s? I don’t know. I do know that my stitches weren’t growing up evenly on the sides. So I had to give my head a shake and keep trying.
On my first attempt, I did the rib stitching as required and did it 6.5 inches high. Upon starting the next section, I realized I had transposed the 6.5 cm for inches. It was only supposed to be 2.5″. I had to frog it again.
I have to get more consistent when reading patterns. I need to ensure my highlighters are fully charged and begin to be like I am in school where when I highlight, I know I read it entirely. Sounds stupid I know; however, this is what works for me.
At the time of publishing this article. The back is 75% done and the 1 side of the front is done. It’s really not that hard but there’s a lot to read in the pattern. Follow it step by step and you will be fine. I hope to finish this within a couple weeks during my spare time.
In the meantime, I really do love this design and think it’s pretty. The yarn is the changes but I can easily see you substituting your yarn for a cheaper alternative. It’s calling for a 6.0 m or Size J hook, you could actually use Red Heart Super Saver with this. I’m even thinking Red Heart Treasure or Midnight would be stunning too.
Enjoy this free pattern compliments of Red Heart.
