Mikey's Grey Matters Beanie Crochet Hat has been added to our sock-yarn beanie crochet hats. Crocheted with a 3 mm / D/11 crochet hook with Patons Kroy Sock Yarn in Grey Marl, this hat is easy to make and fits ever so perfectly. It's gender-neutral, and with this yarn's wool properties, it's one to keep the chill off. If you prefer, you will have extra yarn to make the brim longer.

    Materials

Size: Average Adult. This will shape your head and fall to the bottom of your earlobes.

You can make it longer, as you will have nearly a full ball of a second ball, or you can extend it lower by adding more brim.

    Kroy Socks Yarn - 50 g / 1.75 oz , 152 m / 166 yds

Grey Marl 2 balls. You need just a 10 yards of the second ball to finish.

This yarn is 75% wool and 25 Nylon.

    Hook Size: 3 mm / US D/11

    GAUGE = 11 sc and 14 rows = 2” [5 cm]
TIP: Mikey’s gauge slightly differs from Patons Kroy Socks FX yarn. It’s a tad bit thicker, making fewer rows per 2” only 1 one row and making a significant difference.

    Abbreviations

    • Hdcbp = Half double crochet back post
    • Hdcfp = Half double crochet front post
    • Rep = Repeat
    • RS = Right side
    • Sc = Single crochet
    • Sl st = Slip stitch
    • St(s) = Stitch(es)

    Instructions

    Notes:

    1. Due to the size of the stitches, it’s easy to skip a stitch accidentally. You may have skipped a stitch by accident if your counts are incorrect.
    2. The hat is worked in a continuous circle, with the stitch marker at the end of each round moved up to ensure accurate counts.
    3. The starting of each round is slightly different to prevent the growth of the hat from being obvious.

Create an adjustable ring (magic circle).

Use 8 sc inside the ring.

1st rnd: RS. 8 sc in an adjustable ring. 8 sc. Do not join. Work in a continuous round. Place a stitch marker on the last st and move it up after each instruction.

2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around. 16 sc.

3rd rnd: *1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc. Rep from * around. 24 sc.
