Honest Product Review: Red Heart With Love Better Half Yarn

    Sharing is caring!

I ordered each colour of the new Red Heart With Love Better Half that intrigued me, as it's 50% cotton and 50% acrylic. This is an offering from Yarnspirations that I haven't seen before. I wasn't sure what to expect.

Colorful crochet granny squares and yarns in a woven basket for crochet and crafting enthusiasts.

My first impression is that the ball feels heavier due to the cotton's weight, as cotton weighs more than acrylic. The yarn isn't a typical 4-ply yarn like Lily Sugarn Cream cotton yarn.

The yarn is actually 6-plies of thin strands twisted together. It's premium acrylic mixed with the cotton to provide the expected lustre and reaction to making garments and other nicer crochet or knit clothing. This is not yarn for making dishcloths.

    Splitting Plies

Knowing that acrylic, when combined with premium cotton, can cause strands to separate, I expected this with this product.

I experienced this, and it requires me to adjust my crochet slightly to swing the hook around the strand intentionally. I was able to do this, and the finished look of my squares was charming.

    The Colour Line Up

The colours are pretty safe, and they seem to work well together as a cohesive collection. Maybe in the future they can punch up some of the colours. I would like to see more jewel or deeper tones in this yarn for variety, but it's a new yarn, and people need to know if they love it before investing more time in the brand.

Is it like Caron Cotton Cakes?

The simple answer is no. The complexity of the plies is more elevated. The yarn's feel is more sophisticated.

I'm currently free-forming crochet shorts for myself using a square that I developed, and I'm just making up the pattern as I go. I'm not a clothing designer to whip up a pattern like this. I'm not worrying about writing a pattern for the public and just letting it come out of my head, to my hook and wear it with pride.

A variety of colorful yarn balls, crochet flowers, and tools for knitting, perfect for crochet enthusiasts.
Vibrant crochet projects and supplies ready for creative crochet crafting.

I really like the feel of the yarn, and I cannot wait to see a finished project made with it. This yarn is well-suited for crochet bags and sturdy accessories.
