Yarnspirations launched several new extension brands within the existing Caron Simply Me product lineup. This is the Caron Simply Me Merino version, and yes, merino wool is included in the formulation.
This is 50% merino wool and 50% acrylic. Adding acrylic to the formulation makes this type of yarn more affordable for many people, rather than 100%.

My First Impression
My first impression of looking at the colours online is one of awe and wonder. From the autumn gold to caramel to the basil heather colour shown in the picture above. I would crochet using all the colours in this yarn collection.
I ordered basil heather, and autumn gold to see what those colours were like in person. They are not necessarily colours I would have selected, and I wanted to colour outside of the box of my own preferences.

My Shock
In person, they didn't disappoint and in fact, were much softer than I had anticipated. That is shocking me a bit if the 5 mm / H/8 recommended hook size as it's a #3 Weight Level yarn. But I came to realize it was a smart choice, as the yarn's stitch definition fluffs up naturally once it's in a project.

Crocheting with Air
I noticed as I was crocheting, I felt like there was nothing on the hook, and I was moving without any resistance. I set the hook down, picked up another project, and felt the pressure of the hook with the Red Heart Super Saver on it. I returned to this project, and the gliding nature of my hook is phenomenal.
It is merino wool, and the feel of this yarn and the softness are significantly noticed as you crochet. You are not fighting the yarn and it is eager to be part of your project.
Natural Sheen
The yarn has a natural sheen to it due to the level of quality of the fibres involved. The sheen enhances the stitch definition. You can see the yarn diving in and out of stitches, and it's really eye candy for a crocheter or yarn enthusiast to enjoy.
Yarn Details
It is 3.5 oz (100 grams) and has 215 yards (197 metres) per ball. It is machine washable and dryable. Care instructions are provided on the back of the label for more clarity.
Due to the construction of the yarn and following the care instructions, this yarn will not felt as there is not enough wool in the fibres (even though it's 50%), to felt up as you wash it. Yarnspirations knows that care instructions for any of their product are a big deal. The easier, the better for crocheters and knitters.
Currently on The Hook
I decided to design a basic cat-ear hat using half double crochet. I'm not a big fan of using half double crochet, but I wanted to test what I don't prefer to see how the yarn reacts. I'm pretty pleased with it. Once I complete the design, I'll add it to my pattern collection.
The product feels light, but its weight doesn't affect warmth. Knowing it's 50% wool, I know this product will hold up on its own.
If you are making a wearable, based on how the sample I am making drapes in my hands, I think this is an excellent yarn to use.
Am I going to order more? Yes, I am. The hardest part will be deciding which colours I will choose, but hey, that's a first-world problem.

Does it split like the original Simply Me yarn?
