    Hello!

I received the Joann email with the Yarnspiration Mystery Stitch Along. I watched the first video. I purchased my yarn. When I went back to start the project, I found the project had changed to a multi colored afghan.

The afghan pattern I want is the 2018 pattern with the three off-set granny-type squares that were in gray, cranberry, and berry colored yarns.

I haven’t been able to find this pattern. The closest I’ve come is on your page but, it’s only the first video lesson.

Any chance you could direct me to this pattern from 2018?

    Thanks!

    Shelley

        Mikey,
Thanks to you and the Designers for creating such a fun CAL/SAL. It’s my first one and I enjoyed it so much I created three afghans using different colors and three different layouts. I submitted them for inclusion in the gallery and the drawing. However, every time I go to Flicker (a couple days now at least, maybe three?) it says it is down “As we previously announced, Flickr will be down for a few hours while we move a huge piece of infrastructure to our new hosting platform…”. Several days is not a few hours. I’m concerned that my photos and thus entries may not make it into the contest. How can I determine if they are submitted if I can not access the posting site? Any suggestions? I know you do not control what’s going on with Flicker, but thought maybe you have an idea of how I might know if my three submissions are actively entered in the drawing.

Thanks again for ALL you and your teams do Mikey!
        Best Regards,

        Hey again Mikey,
Well I double checked again today (after this morning’s check on Flicker). The site IS back up but I do not see my three submissions posted yet. I am still concerned that they may not make the drawing, even though I submitted them in time. Not to pester y’all, but I would like to be entered into the drawing.

Take care and keep on hooking!

    Hey Mikey!

LOVED, LOVED this FUN Stitch-a-Long by you and our JoAnn.com friends. I had such a fun time doing it each week and couldn’t wait for the next installment. This is first time I’ve actually ever been in a stitch-a-long. My JoAnn store didn’t have much yarn, so I selected the best I could. LOVED all the flowers and especially that crab border! SUCH FUN! I’ll be using that one on more project for sure!! Keep up the GREAT work! You are LOVED and APPRECIATED so much!

i love learning from you and you make me laugh. Have to let you know or you are aware of already, that in the first week of cal on the writing instructions you don’t have tr for treble in your abbreviations or in the stitch guide. Just thought i let you know. Please keep up the fabulous work you do, and never loose that giggle.

I know I have a tendency to crochet rather tight, especially with 100% acrylic yarn. After reading a couple other posts about gauge swatch being smaller or larger, I decided I better do a gauge swatch. I had to switch up to a 6.75 mm crochet hook to get the recommended size. Maybe this will encourage others to actually check their gauge. I’m certainly glad that I did. Maybe if I switch to one of the ergonomically designed crochet hooks I would do better. I have a few in the larger size crochet hooks but my aluminum hooks that I got as an inexpensive set are all in the smaller sizes and that’s when I seem to really end up with the gauge way off if I don’t do a swatch and change crochet hook size if needed. Do much better with acrylic/wool blend yarns for some reason.

I’ve never done a SAL. There’s a Joann’s near my home and they had the Caron (and other yarns) on a really good sale. I didn’t really like any of the color combinations and actually couldn’t find all of the colors recommended for the different combinations either on line or in my local store. I decided to just get 3 solid colors and one variegated in colors I liked. I chose “sunburnt Dogwood” (variegated), and the following solids, Cream, Light Terracotta and Coral Blush. I have flowers in my garden in colors very similar to this. I just hope it works out since you say there is no stitching, I’m guessing we must be going to be doing some sort of joining in a different fashion. Just got my yarn today (waiting for the sale to start). I’m hoping I get caught up.

So, we can use any brand of yarn, in any 4 colors, as long as we have the same amount of squares to qualify for the contest? Am I correct on that? Does the size matter as long as we have at least 63 squares?

I get there needs to be 63 but my sons do not like the popcorn, and I’m making it for them, so I’m wondering if we have to use all three patterns or can we just use one or two of them to make all the squares.

Mikey, I am enjoying this but I have some feedback for you based on posts I am seeing from beginners that are confused. I’m pretty sure I’ve figured out their confusion…..your video for round 3 has us starting with our tr in the base of the ch4, yet the written pattern states to make the tr in the first dc (which won’t work, it will be a stitch short).

Mikey, I’m doing my first cal and am having a blast! But I am confused on clue 3, round 5. In the video it shows tr, ch, tr to build the corner. If im reading the pattern and chart correctly it shows tr in next 2 DC, ch 2, tr in next 2 DC. By doing this the square will make the corner correctly and lay flatter. If im wrong please let me know so I can make mine over. I don’t mean to offend. I’ve done presentations for years and I know how easily it happens. I appreciate all you do in you thankless position, let me say thank you.

I have a question about the layouts for the CAL. I did not go crazy out of the box with my designs because it was a mystery and I wanted to see what a finished product looked like first . I stuck with the recommended colors from the pattern and am currently working on all 3 .My question is in regards to the layouts. I made enough squares to make the designer layout for the CAL but I would really like to try the other 2 as well . I have never chrochet a granny square project before and was kind of wondering how i figure out which squares are which ? The designer layout is self explanitory because it goes with the pattern.21,20, and 21 and it is written in the pattern. The second and 3rd have different quantities and layouts how do i figure out assembly if im unsure about which square goes where? Maybe im overthinking this but I dont want to just wing it . Thanks for all the help!

Hello Mikey, Thanks for the cal. This is my 1st time participating. I completed a gauge Swatch and my swatch is unfortunately off. To get a 4×4″ square I had to do12dc & 7 rows instead of 12dc and 6 rows. Will this make my Afghan shorter? Any advice TIA Respect

I don’t know that. I have requested shipping several times but the USA / CANADA border plays a strong factor on pricing due to the tariffs. So they are just focused on the USA right now. Maybe in the future it will change, but for now, you will have to shop online elsewhere. I get the feeling, I feel it too.
