Our Clubs run on the following days and evenings : Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 11am – 1pm, Monday and Tuesday 7pm – 9pm. Each member pays £4 per club, we also have a Learning Section for both knitting and crochet, which is a 4 week course, this is £6 per week. There is a waiting list to join the clubs as they are very popular.
The Club members mainly knit or crochet for themselves and everyone is friendly and helpful. The clubs are open to all ages and abilities from 16 years old upwards. Our oldest member is in her 80s. You may join the club if you do other crafts too, sewing, cross stitch or other crafts.
We knit and crochet baby items (hats, cardigans and blankets) for donation to our local Maternity Unit at the Victoria Hospital regularly. We knit and crochet hats, gloves and blankets for donation to the local Homeless via the Foodbank in Glenrothes. We knit and crochet ribbed hats and scarves for the Mission for Seafarers in Aberdeen. Recently we have been knitting Twiddle Muffs for Dementia patients in the local community. We take part in a few challenges each year, some are for charities like Operation Christmas Child, some are for the Guiness Book of Records.
Last September 2015 we took part in the Knitted Teddy Bear Puppets Challenge, and submitted 148 Puppets to Barton on Humber’s Shoebox Appeal for Operation Christmas Child.
We are knitting and crocheting more Teddy Bear Puppets for the new Challenge for Barton on Humber’s Guiness Book of Records attempt for 2016 to make 16,000 bears.
I have a small shop which runs in the same venue as the Club, Jayne’s Wool & Button Shop (this shop is also open to the public on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11am to 2pm). All Club Members get 10% off anything purchased from the shop during club hours.
