My charity makes afghans in memory of Tanner Stewart, who died in June 2017 at only 22 years of age. Prayers of Warmth creates throw afghans for teenagers battling substance abuse, addiction, mental illness and homelessness. Right now I crochet primarily for a residential program that has several houses across Maine. Maine winters get COLD and many of these teens come into programs with very little of their own belongings. I have hopes that making an afghan for them helps them feel loved and warm during such a difficult time in their lives. Helping teenagers with substance abuse problems was a passion of Tanner’s, so I am trying to honor his memory by doing something he cared about. At this time I aim to donate afghans every year on Tanner’s birthday in memory of him. His birthday is December 22nd. I can collect finished throw sized afghans, big enough for teenagers to wrap up in, made of soft acrylic yarn. Contact me at [email protected]
to get the mailing address to send afghans.
