I just joined a group called The Crochet Club Of London (ontario). Started in 2002, we have about 90 members. We use donated yarn, or donated money to buy yarn. It is sorted into bags of colours and amounts to make a project appropriate for the yarn. Once a month members choose a bag or bags, take it home and make it up, bring it back, then twice a year we have a distribution meeting when representatives from Charities in London who have requested blankets come and we do the presentation. Since it started we have distributed about 11,000 afghans. Some of the charities are Salvation Army, mission services, Homeless women’s shelter, Childrens Aid Society, Homes for juvenile delinquents, etc. there are about 23 altogether.

The work is incredible and the afghans beautiful.

I liked the article, but felt like there should have been some follow-up for those of us who have never belonged to a “Guild, Group, or Just Friends”. I believe belonging to The Crochet Crowd is belonging to a group, but not the kind you are referring to. I also think a question as to why we do not or have never belonged to one of the above might have been appropriate for those of who answered “No” to the first 2 questions. I would love to belong to one one of the above, but have not found any in my area. I’m considering trying to begin one of my own. I live in a very small town and could use some suggestions on how to begin a group. I do participate in as many of the charity events as I can. I love the Crochet Crowd. You have given me so many more creative ideas and projects that I have truly enjoyed. And I have participated in many of the charity projects. Thank you so much for being my “Group”.

Hi Mikey from Lake Cowichan British Columbia, I just wanted to let you know that some of us “loose cannons,” in other words the ones who are on their own, do still offer work for charity, a couple of weeks back I posted a picture with the link for the emgergency crochet kit, I am making 10 of those to sell in the fall, all proceeds after costs will be donated to a local elementary school for upcoming art projects. I also made it a point to let the person who originally designed and posted the pic know what I wanted to do and received her blessing.

I hate to criticize – I love The Crochet Crowd. But this survey is confusing. First, you say the survey will answer 3 major questions, then you list 4. And you have 8 questions.

Question #2 is awkwardly worded. Do you really mean have you NEVER belonged to one in the past, or is that a typo and you mean EVER, which is what I would have expected. So, if I have never belonged to a group I would answer yes to this question? If people don’t read carefully they may answer this with the opposite of what they mean.

Question #3 – choose the best reason if you left a group. “I was able to make the meetings”? Did you mean I wasn’t able to make the meetings? Why would someone leave because they were able to make the meetings?

Sometimes answers to a particular questions might be more than one of the choices, or none of the choice. Perhaps you could consider adding answers like “Other” with a field for “Explain”, or “None of the Above”.

Sorry, I used to be an editor in a previous work life. But I think some of the mis-wording, like question 2 could give you data that is not accurate.

Thanks for your constructive feedback. I missed those elements that you talked about. I have made some corrections. I appreciate that. My grammar is terrible.
