The Crochet Study of Meditation Blanket will allow you to sit back and relax as you complete a 9-round repeating pattern using Bernat Blanket yarn. Mikey made this blanket in only 2 evenings, as crochet blankets are very fast to make in this type of yarn.

You can grow the blanket indefinitely by repeating rounds 2 to 10 until you are happy. You can also switch out the yarn for medium #4 yarn and change the hook. Of course, you must figure out the yarn amounts for that sizing.

This blanket has a sister to it called the Crochet Study of Snow Blanket that is linked at the bottom of this article. Many people was asking for a rectangle version which had to be re-imagined in order to make it happen. Once figured out, it was just as easy to make. I have even provided the starting chain if you want to make it longer to start with.

Instructions

Once the blanket passes the 2nd rnd, each side has the same stitch repeating sequence. The shorter sides have less repetition. The pattern is written so the long sides are the start of each round except the 2nd rnd as we will be on the wrong side of the blanket to make the bean stitches pop out.

With A, Ch 10. To chain the length of the blanket, it’s in multiples of 2 chains.

1st rnd: RS. 1 hdc 2nd ch from hook. 1 hdc in next 7 ch. (1 hdc. Ch 2. 3 hdc. Ch 2. 1 hdc) all in last ch. Working underside of chain, 1 hdc in next 7 ch. (1 hdc. Ch 2. 3 hdc) all in last ch. Join. TURN. 9 hdc long side, 3 hdc short side.

TIP: When completed, bean stitches pop to the opposite side of the project. It’s best to turn the blanket around to the wrong side to make the crochet beans pop out on the right side (front of blanket).

2nd rnd: WS. Ch 3, 1 dc in same beg corner sp. Ch 1, sk next st, bs in next, ch 1. Sk last st before corner. (2 dc. Ch 2. 2 dc) in corner sp. Ch 1, [sk next st, bs in next, ch 1.] Rep [ ] to next corner. Sk last st before corner. Ch 1, sk next st, bs in next, ch 1. Sk last st before corner. Ch 1, sk next st, bs in next, ch 1. Sk last st before corner. TURN. Join. 4 bean st long side, 1 bean st short side.

TIP: From this point, the repeating sequence for long and short side are the same.

3rd rnd: RS. Ch 3, 1 dc in same beg corner sp. 1 dc in each st and sp across to next corner. *(2 dc. Ch 2. 2 dc) in corner sp. 1 dc in each st and sp across to next corner. Rep * around. 2 dc in beg sp. Join.

4th rnd: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same beg corner sp. 1 dcbp around each st below to next corner. *(1 hdc. Ch 2. 1 hdc) in corner sp, 1 dcbp around each st below to next corner. Rep from * around. 1 hdc in beg sp. Join.

5th rnd: Ch 3. Sk next st, dc in next st, ch 1, 1 dc in beg corner sp. Criss cr to the next corner 2 sts before the end of the corner. Sk to corner sp, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in first skipped st. *(1 dc. Ch 2. 1 dc) in corner sp. Sk next st, dc in next st, ch 1, 1 dc in corner sp. Criss cr to the next corner 2 sts before the end of the corner. Sk to corner sp, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in first skipped st. Rep * around. 1 dc in beg sp. Join.

6th rnd: Ch 1, 1 hdc in beg corner sp. 1 hdc in next st. 3 hdc in each ch 1 sp across to next corner. 1 hdc in last st before corner. *(1 hdc. Ch 2. 1 hdc) in corner sp. 1 hdc in next st. 3 hdc in each ch 1 sp across to next corner. 1 hdc in last st before corner. Rep from * around. 1 hdc in beg sp. Join.

7th rnd: Ch 3, 1 dc in beg corner sp. 1 dc in next 2 sts. Sk next st, 1 vst in next st, [sk next 2 sts, 1 vst in next st.] Rep [ ]  across to 3rd last st. Sk next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts. *(2 dc. Ch 2. 2 dc) in next corner. 1 dc in next 2 sts. Sk next st, 1 vst in next st, [sk next 2 sts, 1 vst in next st.] Rep [ ]  across to 3rd last st. Sk next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts. Rep from * around. 2 dc in beg sp. Join.

TIP: The 8th rnd is similar to the 6th, but each side's starting and finishing points are different. Corners also have different counts.

8th rnd: Ch 1, 2 hdc in beg corner sp. 1 hdc in next st. Sk next st, 3 hdc in next st. 3 hdc in each ch 1 sp across to next corner. 3 hdc in 3rd last st to corner. Sk next st, 1 hdc next st. *(2 hdc. Rep 2nd to 10th rnds with changing the colour on the 10th rnds to block in the colours perfectly. Then rep 2nd to 8th rnd one more time. Break last colour at the end of the last 8th rnd.

Next round: RS. With A, join with sl st to any ch-2 corner sp. Ch 1. 1 sc in same corner sp. 1 sc in each st to next corner. *(1 sc. Ch 2. 1 sc) in corner sp. 1 sc in each st to next corner. Rep from * around. 1 sc in beg corner sp. Ch 2. Join with sl st to beg sc. Break A.

Next round: RS. With B, join with sl st to any ch-2 corner sp. Ch 1. 1 sc in same corner sp. 1 sc in each st to next corner. *(1 sc. Ch 2. 1 sc) in corner sp. 1 sc in each st to next corner. Rep from * around. 1 sc in beg corner sp. Join with hdc to beg sc.
