Science tells us that it's the air pockets that keep us warm. Your body heat warms up the air pockets and helps repel cold weather better. Your body is warming up the ribbing that is double thickness in this design.
I wanted something fast on my hook and put boring tv time to good use! This is the Thick Unforgettable Winter Crochet Headband.
Created with Red Heart Unforgettable yarn. The colour used was called Tidal. You can make 2 headbands with just one ball.
The ribbing provides stretch. Without stretching it, it is 9" diameter and 3.25" wide. The starting chain is tighter than the finished edge. Wear this upside down so the starting chain is the top as your head is more narrow there. It fits snuggly and is warm.
If you prefer it to be larger, chain in multiples of 2. I tried doing it 80 chains and it was too loose. Removing 6 chains for me was ideal. I realized in 3 rows that it was too big and frogged it back out. If you want it to be more than 3.25" inches, just make a few more rounds.

I created a crochet diagram to best illustrate how the stitches are connected to form the thick ribbing. You can print or save the diagram and is provided in the full downloadable pattern too.
