A quick few-day project was my bougie little laundromat. When I was younger, my parents owned a typical laundromat, but it looked nothing like this. From people breaking into the coin equipment to the crap people would wash.
I explored what a fancy laundromat could look like in this example.
I took a guess on the sizing I needed, and with the miniatures primarily being from Michaels, the scaling didn't match the doll size of 1:12. So everything in this had to be scaled down smaller.
I get a real thrill in laying flooring in a model. I learned that once it is down, you have to urethane the surface so the grouting, aka crack filler, will not stick to the top of the floorboards and will go in between.
I originally had three washers and three dryers but only used 2 of each for spacing reasons. I had to paint them up to match the look I was going for.
I wanted the colouring to match the look, so I used a marker to tap the buttons and follow the lines in the washer. It looked pedestrian but, again, matched the look.
The equipment was glued down, and then so many cool little accessories were added to the laundromat. From items in the washers and dryers to having a full garbage can and detergent bottles.
I don't like people in my miniatures, and the miniature is taken from a perspective of a story that is happening, but everyone has left the room while things are in progress.
My models go on exhibit at a local business just for fun. Everything is glued down.
