I would like to know where I could donate small things like cross book marks or other things that I could make simply and quickly to help people going through a hard time. Sometimes just the soft touch of something to let people know that they are loved and important can be just the thing to hold onto in difficult times.

I'm really unsure about your local area. I guess if I were you, I would call some religious organizations near you. Sounds like the cross you are referring to is a religious symbol. They will be able to share with you more details.
