Yarnspirations has launched four new yarns in late Spring 2025, including Bernat Maker Splash, Bernat Cotton Terry, Bernat Sport Ombre Twist, and Caron Colorama Lacy yarns.
One of them, Bernat Sport Ombre Twist, addresses a complaint I have been seeing online about medium and chunky weight yarns overtaking the yarn market. People have been missing the lightweight #3 yarns, and boy, oh boy, did Yarnspirations notice that and develop a new yarn. Yarn development can take up to 18 months to complete before it goes to market. Not only did they deliver the weight level, but the colour transitions of using marled ombre are a fantastic addition to the Bernat family of yarns.
Tip: Clicking the linked yarn brand will take you to the yarn choices and patterns for each.

Bernat Ombre Twists Yarn

Bernat Sport Ombre Twist took me back in time, when James C. Brett had baby yarn that did a similar thing, marling yarn together. What is different this time is the yardage within the ball. With over 1,000 yards, you'll have enough yarn at one time.
The yarn is a lightweight #3, which will create a raised, elevated look for baby items, but is also elegant enough for adults to enjoy, whether it be a wrap, shawl, or another type of wearable.
There are 12 colours of this yarn that include the following names to look up:
- Doe A Deer (Neutral Tones)
- Cloudy Gray
- Lollipop Pink (Fun and Bright)
- Sorbet (Orange and Pink Mix)
- Honeyed Gold (Yellow and Gold)
- Melon (Light Yellow, Gold and White)
- Lichen (Soft Green and Darker Sage)
- Aquatic (Green, Gray and White)
- Amethyst (Blue and Purples)
- Periwinkle Blue (Blue and Grays)
- Lilac (Dark Rose and Purple)
- Pastel (Blue, Yellow and Very Light Orange)
The balls are 100% acrylic and generously sized, weighing 280g / 9.9 oz and measuring 924 meters / 1011 yards. One of the adult sweaters you will see on Yarnspirations is only 2 balls. Yes, the yardage goes a long way. Love it.
Bernat Cotton Terry Yarn

Bernat Cotton Terry yarn wasn't marketed as I expected it to be. Being cotton terry, I was half expecting this yarn to be sold for dishrags or even beach towels, but the yarn is more elevated, as the contents are not meant for dishrags, but rather for an elevated look in fashion with a cotton terry spin to it.
At the time of launch, nearly all the free patterns are suggested for clothing, and boy, they look comfortable to wear. The Bernat Corchet Cotton Cool Polo Shirt has piqued my curiosity, and for those with a more feminine approach, the tops are well designed.
Of course, they had to create a beach blanket with this yarn because they just had to.
The yarn is 47% cotton, 32% acrylic and 21% nylon to hold this stunning bouncle-style yarn together. It's designed with delicasy in mind.
Yarn ball yardage is as follows: 120g / 4.2 oz, 209 meters / 229 yards. It's machine washable and dryable. There are a total of 14 colour options all in solids for this new brand.
Speaking from experience, this cannot be dishrag usage due to the acrylic being used. You need 100% cotton yarns, such as Lily Sugar'n Cream, for applications like that.

Bernat Maker Splash Yarn

I was thrilled to see Bernat Maker yarn receive an upgrade in colouring to Bernat Maker Splash yarn. What makes me addicted to yarn creation is the yarn journey of the colouring within the ball of yarn. The yarn is speckled with colour instead of solid colours that were added to the white base of the yarn. It's a typoe of yarn where I let it do its magic and hook through it.
The Bernat Crochet Eyelet Waves Blanket below is an example of the type of project that gets my creative juices flowing.

This yarn is an extension of Bernat Maker and has 9 different colour ways. I have always loved this yarn and was devastated when it was discontinued years ago, and I'm super delighted that it re-emerged a couple of years ago.
I learned to knit with this yarn and chose this yarn to do so because there are no fibres to split. Due to its thickness, the projects grow faster, as I found the time factor for knitting negatively hitting my ADHD head-on. This yarn solved that barrier for me.
This yarn is a mix of 75% cotton with 25% nylon. The interior of the tube-shaped object has cotton inside it. The ball size is generous, at 250g / 8.8 oz, and it has a length of 279 meters / 305 yards. This yarn is both wearable and suitable for home decor. It's a great mix of ideas you can create with this yarn.
If you put two balls together and stitch them as one, you can create a. weighted blanket to enjoy. Make it more weighted by doing three balls at the same time as well. You decide. Being cotton-based, it's easier to manage, as acrylic tends to hold onto heat and overheat you, depending on your application.
From bags to shrugs, blankets, and more. You decide, you're the artist.
Caron Colorama Lacy Yarn

Caron Colorama Lacy yarn is a ribbon-based yarn, and the suggested projects caught me by surprise. This yarn is a mix of solid colours and some variegated colours too.
You can use this for shawls, wraps, tops. andwhat shocked me was a crochet bag pattern too. I wouldn't have expected that. It looks and feels like durable yarn.
The yarn is composed of 85% acrylic and 15% nylon. Nylon is what gives yarn like this strength as it's part of the core of the strand itself.
The yarn is machine washable and dryable and the balls are 227g/8oz, 330 meters/361 yards.
This will create lightweight wearables and is something worth trying. I also appreciate the richness of the colouring.
