Easy Crochet Blooming Baby Blanket + Tutorial

Using just one ball of Caron Colorama Halo yarn, you can create an easy to follow four-round repeating star baby blanket. The use of double crochet back posts provides visual relief.

The crochet baby star has 10 points in all, and once the repeating pattern is established, you can grow this blanket as large as you need. With the Caron Colorama Halo, the yarn transitions most softly and elegantly. It makes the blanket look like it's bloom. This is the Crochet Blooming Baby Blanket pattern.

Use the transitions of the yarn to your advantage with just one ball of yarn. This pattern utilizes nearly the entire ball to create a baby blanket.

TIP: The pattern is established. The points will get longer with each repeating. The stitch count to reach the point will increase by 1 stitch. For example, last round we had 6 dc before you get to the point space; in the next round, it will be 7.

Definition of the Valley

The valley is the lowest spot between the points. There are always two skipped stitches between one point to other. Essentially, two middle stitches are skipped to allow the star to have definition of points.

You will crochet down to the valley, skipping the last stitch of the same point and the first stitch of the next point.

11th rnd: Sl st in 1 dc. Ch 3. 1 dc in each dc to next ch-2 corner sp. *Shell in next ch-2 sp. 1 dc in each dc until 2nd last st at the valley .** Skip next 2 dc. 1 dc in each dc to next ch-2 corner sp. Rep from * to last ch-2 sp. Rep from * to **. Join.

12th & 13th rnds: Rep 11th rnd.

14th rnd: Sl st in first dc. Ch 2. 1 dcbp around same dc as last sl st. 1 dcbp around each dc to next ch-2 corner sp. *Shell in next ch-2 sp. 1 dcbp around each dc until 2nd last st of the valley. ** Skip next 2 dc. 1 dcbp around each dc to next ch-2 sp. Rep from * to last ch-2 sp. Rep from * to **. Join.

Last rnd: Sl st in 1 dc. Ch 1. 1 sc in each dc to next ch-2 corner sp. *3 sc in next ch-2 sp. 1 sc in each dc until 2nd last st at the valley .** Skip next 2 dc. 1 sc in each dc to next ch-2 corner sp. Rep from * to last ch-2 sp. Rep from * to **. Join.

When I first saw this blanket on Facebook in the Crochet Crowd group, I fell in love! Because the climate is so humid where I live, decided to make a light weight version in DK for a baby blanket. Perhaps when the months get cooler again, I can do another blanket in the Caron Halo Big Ball Yarn. Thanks, Michael for a great pattern!
