In a rare opportunity while in Alaska, I was surrounded by the Northern Lights. At one point, the light came down over the top of me. It was mesmerizing. I picked up a hank at the Musk Ox Farm, which was called Northern Lights, to capture my moment and put it into a hat pattern. The swirls and beams of light were awe-inspiring. This is the Crochet Northern Lights Qivuit Beanie Hat pattern.
Daniel prefers his beanies to be without a brim but straight on down. It will form fit, and using this blend of qiviut and merino wool yarn, his warmth is pretty much guaranteed in the wintertime.
Size: Average Adult. This will shape your head and fall to the bottom of your earlobes.
Qiviut and Merino are warm, and don’t let the thinness of this yarn fool you. It’s like having your undercoat like the musk ox can survive the arctic temperatures.

Instructions
How to do an adjustable circle or magic ring. Use 8 sc in the ring for this pattern.
Tips:
- Due to the size of the stitches, it’s easy to skip a stitch accidentally. You may have skipped a stitch by accident if your counts are incorrect.
- The hat is worked in a continuous circle, with the stitch marker at the end of each round moved up to ensure accurate counts.
- The starting of each round is slightly different to prevent the growth of the hat from being obvious.
Create an adjustable ring (magic circle).
