This combination is a 4-row repeat. The yarn is not cut between rows and is carried up the side.
This matches the pattern called Crochet Tweed Shawl that was released in January 2020 by Yarnspirations.
Instructions
The stitch multiple is 2 + 1
Using any size hook and yarn that is recommended on the ball band. The demonstration is using 6 mm / J Hook with Patons Lincoln Fog.
Abbreviations
- Beg = Beginning
- Ch = Chain
- Cont = Continue
- Dc = Double Crochet
- Pat = Pattern
- Rem = Remaining
- Rep = Repeat
- RS = Right Side
- Shell = 5 dc into same st.
- Sk = Skip
- Sp = Space
- WS = Wrong Side
Chain in multiples of 2. Add 1 chain at the end of the chain for balance.
- To change color, work to last 2 loops on hook and draw new color through last 2 loops, then proceed in new color.
- Ch 3 at beg of row counts as dc.
- The project is reversible.
1st row: (RS). With A, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. *1 dc in next ch. 1 sc in next ch. Rep from * to last ch. 1 dc in last ch. Join B. Turn. 66 sts.
2nd row: (WS). With B, ch 1. 1 sc in first dc. *1 dc in next sc. 1 sc in next dc. Rep from * to last sc. 1 dc in last sc. Do not turn.
3rd row: (WS). With A, sl st in first sc. Ch 3. *1 sc in next dc. 1 dc in next sc. Rep from * to last dc. 1 sc in last dc. Turn.
4th row: (RS). With B, sl st in first sc. Ch 3. *1 sc in next dc. 1 dc in next sc. Rep from * to last dc. 1 sc in last dc. Do not turn.
5th row: (RS). With A, sl st in first dc. Ch 1. 1 sc in first dc. *1 dc in next sc. 1 sc in next dc. Rep from * to last sc. 1 dc in last sc. Turn.
6th row: (WS). With B, sl st in first dc. Ch 1. 1 sc in first dc. *1 dc in next sc. 1 sc in next dc. Rep from * to last sc. 1 dc in last sc. Do not turn.
Rep 3rd to 6th rows until you are satisfied.

Can anyone help with the fringe chain instructions? First direction says chain 17. But from where? They are so confusing. A video tutorial would help.

The Ch 17 is starting in the first stitch along the edge. when you get back down to the start of the chain after you slip stitch back down the chain, Sl stitch into the next chain and begin the ch 17 again and sl st back down the chain. Do this across.

I have been attempting the tweed stitch to make this beautiful shawl. I cannot figure out how I keep losing stitches. I started with 67 chain stitches and finished first row with 66. As soon as I start the patterns, I seem to drop one stitch whenever I work the row with the chain three DC. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you would lose a chain when you start because you are chaining the length (or width), plus the initial stitch, here it sounds like it would be single crochet. which means in the next row although your count would be 66 even though you chained 67, that would be right, if it was starting with a double crochet you would have 65 etc..

Thank you for getting back to me. I do understand that it is a 2+1 chain and that I lose that initial ch which takes me to 66 stitches. I am losing stitches as I crochet the pattern rows. It seems to be when I begin the rows with 3ch ( representing 1dbl) I have restarted at least 4 times trying to figure out my mistake. I love the look of the pattern and want to complete this, but I cant seem to find my error.
