Spoked Granny Square

Have you seen the latest trending granny square? It's a solid granny square with 12 spokes through the middle of it.

The spoked granny square has texture and raised edges to give a finished look to a square without having to change colour.

Just for kicks, I changed the yarn to slowly transitioning yarns such as Red Heart Boutique Midnight and James C Brett's Chunky Marble.

While many people love traditional granny squares, this concept allows those who may be bored with the concept to try something new. Once you understand how this pattern works, making more is pretty easy.

To see this pattern in a project, see the Monkeying Around The Blanket. I've used that pattern for the basis of this tutorial.

Share with me your thoughts on this square. Do you see yourself using a pattern like this?

I have entered many of the competitions you have and I love your crochet patterns.
My granddaughter has asked me to copy a crocheted pillow that her great grandma made for her, i think it looks like a doily that was sewn (crocheted) onto a pillow, it was not made a a cover but actually sewn onto the pillow so that it cannot be removed, she sent me 3 pics but it is hard for me to copy it, i thought if i could find a name of the style of crochet stitch used, i might find a written pattern, i have 3 pictures of it, is it possible i could send you the pics and you might tell me the name of the stitch used on the flower part?
It looks VERY similar to the spoked granny square but not exactly like it either.
    thanks in advance
where can i upload the picture to? i have a facebook,.

As a matter of fact I'm doing a Huge Pile of grannys, all the same. This could work to stretch out my supply of limited colors and become one of the background colors on other projects. IF the # of stitches works out! lol Thanks for the suggestion!
