Since Spring 2018, crocheters and knitters have been getting together in New Minas, Nova Scotia, at Michaels on Wednesdays from 6 pm to 8:30 pm. This is a year-round as the group is self-governing. If Mikey doesn't show up, the group still gathers as stitchers love to gather naturally.
We have a mix of crocheters and knitters who attend with a core group of people who show up week after week, with others coming once in a while. The Michaels Stores local to us allows us to go in on Wednesday Evenings where we can gather, snack and stitch our hearts out. Truly, though, the only thing we finish is usually the dessert tray.
This is Mikey's home group. There's not a lot of effort to film or take photos in the group as the group of men and women, and they can gather in a safe environment. This is for adults only. Depending on the sugar content, humour can get pretty out there some evenings and language is not filtered.
Safe Space Environment
Our group is inclusive to all with a safe space environment. The Michaels Store, where we meet, is also a safe space for everyone. Please don't come to the group if you feel uncomfortable in a safe space environment. The group naturally leaves religious and political talk at the front door.
Out of Towners
You can show up if you pass through on vacation to stitch with us. The private Stitchers In The Valley Facebook Group is only for local participants who will attend. It's a pretty quiet Facebook group as it notices things that pertain to the evenings, such as messages from Michaels and weather notices.
We will also put a notice out on The Crochet Crowd Facebook Page if there is a change in schedule and notice of weather. That will cover out-of-towners who are planning on visiting. You can expect these notices during ice or snow and incoming tropical or hurricane storms.
We are blocked out of Michaels on Black Friday Week (November) and Boxing Week (December) as the classroom gathers online orders and in-store pick-up staging.
General Rule
For legal reasons for working online, our home address is public information. Please do not show up at our home. We have a personal policy that no one, including friends and family, is to show up without an invitation. We need to know people are coming, as the dawgs are usually outside. They are really protective of their territory.
PuppiDawg and Salti are not on a leash but are protected by an invisible fence. They are Great Pyrenees dogs.
If you are passing through, use the group times. Mikey is pretty regular in going to the group, except when travelling or if the day is too harsh and he wants to soak in his misery at home.
