This is the fastest version of Hugs and Kisses, with the chevrons squaring off for a rectangle-shaped ultra-thick marshmallow squish baby blanket. Due to the trendy design, different yarns and hook sizes were included in the pattern to get you the answers faster.

This is the Hugs and Kisses Marshmallow Squish Baby Blanket pattern. It was originally designed by Jeanne Steinhilber and upgraded by Michael Sellick in 2024.

Abbreviations List

  • Ch(s) = Chain(s)
  • Dc = Double crochet Dc3tog = Double crochet 3 together
  • Hdc = Half double crochet
  • Hdc2tog = Half double crochet 2 together
  • Hdc3tog = Half double crochet 3 together
  • Rep = Repeat

  • Sc3tog = Single crochet 3 together
  • Sk = Skip
  • St(s) = Stitch(es)
  • WS = Wrong side
  • Yoh = Yarn over hook

Special Stitches

  • Bobble = Dc4tog in same st. In next st, *yoh, pull up a loop, yoh, pull through 2 loops; rep from * 3 times, until you have 5 loops on hook, yoh and pull through all to complete 4 dc together. These are worked on the wrong side.
  • X-st = Sk next st, dc in next st, dc in skipped st behind the first dc.

Stitch Multiples = 28 + 2

  • 4 ply Medium Weight Worsted Yarn with 4.5 mm / US 7 Hook. Each Chevron is 6.5” across for each multiple of 28 chains.
  • 4 ply Medium Weight Worsted Yarn with 5 mm / H/8 Hook. Each Chevron is 7” across for each multiple of 28 chains.
  • Bernat Blanket yarn with 10 mm / N/P Hook. Each chevron is 13” across for multiples of 28 chains.

Helpful Tip = If you have trouble recognizing the “peaks” and “valleys” of the chevron, use stitch markers until you are comfortable. This is especially helpful on the hdc and bobble row. The hdc3tog tends to lean off to the side and can be hard to spot.

I'm still learning to read charts. Is this avalable as a video tutorial? (I haven't found it yet.) If it's not a tutorial, could it be added to the never-ending list of projects? Thank you for all you do. I enjoy the channel.
