Influencing others through education or sales is a fine line in social media. I've come to this journey in 2008 before Social Media became a thing. I had to learn how to understand the programming before social media tools were ever available. In this free workshop, I'm showing you what to watch for and remember; any advice I give is just that: advice. I encourage you to find your rhythm and beat to the drum that works for you. However, if you find yourself failing, you may find what I share to help guide you.
Introduction to the Program
This program is free to anyone who wishes to learn. In the journey, you will find me being very direct and to the point. I will share with you analogies throughout.
Lesson 2: Dealing with Mental Health
In this exercise, I will ask you many deep questions that will really push you to think about. Social media can put you as a target for people's anger or frustration. This video will have several questions for you to think about.
While many HUGE Social Media People use social media as a soap box and barely interact with their communities, social media is a two-way street. If you close yourself off to not interact, you might find yourself out in the cold.
Lesson 3 - What About Ism's
Communities can put the pressure on social media creators to remind them where they missed out and the creator has failed. For myself being a high functioning ADHD person, this has caused serious mental damage for me in not recognizing this earlier.
If, for example, I show how to eat with a fork, I will have people say they don't have a fork, and why they don't have a fork and so forth. They are putting their issues onto the creator. To remind the creator they have failed.
To recognize when a community member is projecting their issues onto a creator.
Lesson 4 - Being Demoted by Social Media
If you are not complying with the social media platform's ideal wishes and break the algorithm for what the social platform wants, you can get yourself demoted without knowing about it.
Demoted can be intentional, but it also could be your own track record that deems that you are not ideal to suggest. For example, if a social platform wants new content every 3 days and you are updating once a week, you will find yourself struggling as the social algorithm to find someone else to promote, other than you.
If you are not consistent, you can self-demote yourself without ever knowing. Don't confusion demotion for people who may not love what you are producing and just skip your content.
Lesson 5 - Filtering Yourself
You have to filter the content and presentations. Filters are more than just what you are creating but also if the community is being cruel or making unnecessary comments. Most social media platforms have filters to block comments or types of feedback.
You need to protect your community. It's your obligation when the tools are available to you.
Lesson 6 - Getting Screwed Over with Music
In video content, playing music in the videos can really screw you over. Music in The Crochet Crowd is a paid monthly licence. If you use royalty-free music, you are risking your entire platform in the event of a copyright strike.
Once you start using music, you are on the hook financially for the duration of the videos being online.
Lesson 7 - Stay On Topic
You need to stay on topic and not stray. Less is more. The video gives examples of going off-topic. People want to get to the point and they are there for what you promised.
Lesson 8 - Going Rogue
When you buck the system, the system will fight back and fail you. In this video, I share personal experiences. Giving the system the way I want to give it, not the way the social platforms prefer it to be.
Lesson 9 - Save Money, Do It Yourself
There's no excuse why you cannot do most of what you need to do on your own. If you are online, you have access to search engines to look up things.
Spend time investing yourself in learning versus just producing content. The more you can do yourself, the more money you can keep. It's tough to make money but it's too easy to spend it on consultations that may not help you the way you wanted.
Lesson 10 - Jumping to Conclusions
The worst element of social media is when the creator and/or community members start adding more to a subject that never happened. Many creators can face the pressure of people who have heard wrong information and target the creator about it.
As a creator, make sure research as as your voice is powerful.
Lesson 11 - Contract Obligations
Contracts and special arrangements with advertisers can really screw you over. You need to ensure that you establish a relationship that is beneficial for both parties.
You have to do the leg work to establish yourself before stuff like this that can happen.
Lesson 12 - Are You Likeable?
Being likeable and relatable to the community is the true make or break for any person starting out.
Lesson 13 - Approved Images
Anything you download is on you if you use it. Watch the licences.
Lesson 14 - Self Analysis
Reading analytics is the way to self-measure your success. Success isn't based on feelings, it's based on statistical data. Anything you do on social media is regulated by analytics.
Anyone lying about their influencing power is caught with tools others use.
Lesson 15 - Trinity Affect
Social influencers have social media platforms. I describe the social media world as a trinity affect. Though you have many social media outlets, one platform has to be your strongest.
Lesson 16 - Goals for Social Media
What goals are you going to have for social media? This video will cause you to reflect on what your ultimate goals are.
Lesson 17 - Social Announcements & Notifications
You have to be socially responsible for the social announcements and updates. You need to be responsible for things that the community feels responsible for your failures or struggles.
Lesson 18 - Do You Need Newsletters
I have mixed reviews on newsletters for smaller companies like ourselves. Newsletters cost money to have and you need to ensure you have funds to cover it. We tried to save money, and we paid the ultimate price for it. Social media platforms have notifications, and it's our way of communicating.
Yes, certain people will hate specific platforms. If they choose not to participate in a social platform you are using, leave it be. What they want will cause you to spend money to appease them, and it may be a waste of money.
Lesson 19 - Community Pile Ons
When you use social media to pile on negative emotions against another person or company, you can set yourself up to be the victim of pile-ons right back at you. You need to exercise strong caution if you participate in creating the pile-on.
