I recently discovered the Crochet Bargello Make Waves Blanket; the link is below. However, I couldn't see myself wanting to do it, as the visual interest wasn't enough for me to continue the pattern. My connections were loose, and I wanted to change up the pattern to give it texture and tightness.
I created this Version of the Crochet Bargello Cross Stitch Wave Lap Blanket.

I changed up some things to make crocheting faster as well. I will show you below.

Changes
- Once you get to row 2, each row is the same. There is no need to stress; go with it.
- I changed out the double crochet and switched them to double crochet front posts to make the texture and colour pop more.
- The top section has the equivalent of 10 double crochets across. I switched it out so the middle section has cross stitches instead. This gives it more texture and is easy to follow.
- I changed chain 3 to chain 2 to tighten up the connection spots. There are no gaps.
- The location of the slip stitching when stepping up or down was changed to a ch-2 sp instead of using chain work to make it much faster to locate and also connect better.
- It's tight so baby toes and fingers don't go between stitches.
Crochet Diagram
The stitch multiple to change the size is the same as the original of 53 chains + 2. Each repeat is approximately 8" in width.
The crochet diagram is ready to print when you are ready to try it. Just click the picture below to begin.
