You've lost your way, and you cannot determine which side is the right side (RS) or the wrong side (WS). The answer is in the location of the beginning yarn tail. To keep orientation, I highly recommend not removing this tail until the end of the project.
If the 1st row is considered the right side (RS) by the designer:
- For right-handed crocheters, the starting tail will be on the left.
- For left-handed crocheters, the starting tail will be on the right.
If the 2nd row is considered the right side (RS) by the designer:
- For right-handed crocheters, the starting tail will be on the right.
- For left-handed crocheters, the starting tail will be on the left.
If you are doing a foundation stitch that starts a project without a starting chain. If the 1st row is considered the right side:
- For right-handed crocheters, the starting tail will be on the right.
- For left-handed crocheters, the starting tail will be on the left.
If you are doing a foundation stitch that starts a project without a starting chain. If the 2nd row is considered the right side:
- For right-handed crocheters, the starting tail will be on the left.
- For left-handed crocheters, the starting tail will be on the right.

I've always used the tail as my marker. So glad to see this post, it will help many learn the easy way to tell right and wrong.

I cannot tell you how many times I have guessed which was the right side. Who said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? Thank you
