Palliative is specialized medical care for people diagnosed with a severe illness such as cancer or heart disease, and it can be integral to a patient’s healing process. Alongside curative treatment, palliative care can enhance the patient’s quality of life.

Hospice care is the next step when no treatment is going to correct the issue and give care to the patient until the end of life.

I find myself saying, "I'm here for you." This is the Here For Your Palliative Care Crochet Blanket pattern.

These blankets also double as great baby blankets at the beginning of life as well.

This is a one-row repeating pattern where the colour changes after every two rows. Using Bernat Blanket in the colour called Neon Mix separated by white, these tight v-stitches puzzle together.

You may have a child or someone who needs a blast of colour or a cheerful-looking blanket for recovery or comfort.

Materials

Size: 36” wide by 48” long. I intended to use the stripes vertically down.

This is a great stash-busting project to finish up any balls you may have. I used leftovers from one of the stitch-alongs from years ago.

Bernat Blanket Yarn - 300g / 10.5 oz, 201 meters / 220 yards

A - Neon Mix - 2 Balls (yarn colour may be exclusive to a retailer)

B - White - 2 Balls

Hook Size: 10 mm / N/15GAUGE = 8 sc and 7 rows  = 4” [10 cm]

Abbreviations

Approx = Approximately

Beg = Beginning

Bet = Between

Ch = Chain(s)

Dc = Double crochet

Rep = Repeat

RS = Right side

Sk = Skip

Sl st = Slip stitch

St(s) = Stitch(es)

Vst(s) = V-stitch(es). 2 dc in same st

WS = Wrong side

Instructions

With A, ch 79. Multiples of 2 chs + 5.

1st row: RS. Vst in 5th ch from hook (counts as 1 dc on edge + 1 vst). *Sk next ch, vst in next ch. Rep across until 3rd last ch. Sk next ch, 1 dc in last chain. Turn.

Tips:

  • Place the v stitches in between the middle of a v stitch in the row below. It puzzles together. See the crochet diagram for clarity.
  • Row 2 is the repeat through the entire blanket going forward.

Tip: The starting chain has only 1 skipped stitch. When evenly spacing the single crochet around, only place one single crochet in the spaces on the beginning chain.
