How To Crochet Cotton 22" Doily Rage + Tutorial

Crochet a generous size Study of Rage Crochet Doily. Using Patons Grace mercerized cotton, this ends up being 22" in diameter.

To make my life easier for filming, I decided to film up the original version of the study of rage using Patons Grace. I used 4.25 balls to make it happen with a 3 mm / D crochet hook.

Use 3 mm / D crochet hook.

Abbreviations

• Approx = Approximately
• Beg = Begin(ning)(s)
• Ch = Chain(s)
• Cluster = (Yoh and draw up a loop at front of work, inserting hook from right to left. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) 3 times around post of indicated stitch. Yoh and draw through remaining 4 loops on hook.
• Dc = Double crochet
• Dc3tog = (Yoh and draw up a loop in next st. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) 3 times. Yoh and draw through all 4 loops on hook

With A, Beg using magic loop method. See video below to show you how to make the magic loop. Put in 18 dc into ring for this project.

Join all rnds with sl st to first st unless otherwise indicated.

1st rnd: (RS). Ch 1. 18 dc in ring. Join with sl st bp around first st. 18 dc.

2nd rnd: Ch 1. 1 dcbp around first st. *Ch 1. 1 dcbp around next st. Rep from * around. Ch 1. Join with sl st bp around first st. 18 sts and 18 ch-1 sps.

3rd rnd: Ch 1. 1 dcbp around first st. *Ch 2. 1 dcbp around next st. Rep from * around. Ch 2. Join. 18 sts and 18 ch-2 sps.

4th rnd: Ch 1. 3 sc in each ch-2 sp around. Join. 54 sc.

5th rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join. 54 sc.

6th rnd: Ch 1. Cluster around first dcbp in 3rd rnd. Skip sc behind Cluster. 1 sc in each of next 2 sc. *Cluster around next dcbp in 3rd rnd. Skip sc behind Cluster. 1 sc in each of next 2 sc. Rep from * around. Join. 18 Clusters and 36 sc.

7th rnd: Ch 1. 2 sc in top of first Cluster. 1 sc in each of next 2 sc. *2 sc in top of next Cluster. 1 sc in each of next 2 sc. Rep from * around. Join. 72 sc.

8th rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. *Ch 4. Skip next 3 sc. 1 sc in next st. Rep from * to last 3 sc. Ch 4. Skip last 3 sc. Join. 18 sc and 18 ch-4 sps.

9th rnd: Sl st in first ch-4 sp. Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp. *8 dc in next ch-4 sp. 1 sc in next ch-4 sp. Rep from * to last ch-4 sp. 8 dc in last ch-4 sp. Join. 72 dc and 9 sc.

10th rnd: Skip first sc. Sl st bp around first dc. Ch 1. 1 dcbp around first dc just worked. (Ch 1. 1 dcbp around next dc) 7 times. *Skip next sc. (Ch 1. 1 dcbp around next dc) 8 times. Rep from * around. Ch 1. Join. 72 dc and 72 ch-1 sps.

11th rnd: Sl st to the next ch-1 sp. Ch 4 (counts as 1 dc + ch 1 sp), 1 hdc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, (1 sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1) 3 times, 1 hdc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, 1 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1. Skip next ch-1 sp. *1 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, 1 hdc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, (1 sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1) 3 times, 1 hdc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, 1 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1. Skip next ch-1 sp. 12th rnd: Sl st to next ch 1 sp. Ch 3, 1 dc in same sp. (2 dc in next 8 sps. 3 dc in next sp. *2 dc in next 9 sps, 3 dc in next sp. Rep from * around. 2 dc in the last 3 sps. Join. 131 dc.

In the next rnd, I need to create an extra ch-1 sp. Notice the ending of the rnd as you are going to force a ch-1 sp into position.

13th rnd: Ch 4 (counts as 1 dc + ch-1 sp). *Sk next st. 1 dc in next st, ch 1. Rep from * around. 1 dc in last st, ch 1. Join to 3rd chain of beg ch-4. 66 dc and 66 ch-1 sps. 132 sts.

14th rnd: Ch 1, 1 sc in each dc and ch-1 sp around. Join. 132 sc.

15th rnd: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), 1 dc in next 9 sc, 2 dc in next sc. *1 dc in next 10 sc, 2 dc in next sc. Rep from * around. Join. 144 dc.

16th rnd: Ch 1, sl to the bp of beg st, ch 3 (counts as dcbp). 1 dcfp around next st. *1 dcbp around next st. 1 dcfp around next st. Rep from * around. Join.

The next round will be the Samurai Stitch. For our example, it will be slightly different to maintain the growth of a circle.

Samurai St Beg = Samurai Stitch. Ch 3, 1 dc in the next 2 sts. Yoh and wrap around the last 3 dc posts from front to back. Insert into skipped st. Pull up a loop and extend slack with the loop so the three posts are slightly compressed together and a loop lays across the posts. (Yoh and pull through 2 loops) twice.

Samurai St 4 = Samurai Stitch. Sk next st. 1 dc in the next 3 sts. Yoh and wrap around the last 3 dc posts from front to back. Insert into skipped st. 18th rnd: Ch 1, 1 sc in each st around. Join. 156 sc.

19th rnd: Ch 1, 1 sc in same st, ch 3, sk 2 sts. *1 sc in next st, ch 3, sk next 2 sts. Rep from * around. Join. 52 ch-3 sps and 52 sc.

20th rnd: Sl st to next ch-3 sp, ch 1, 1 sc in same sp, 7 dc in next ch-3 sp. *1 sc in next ch-3 sp, 7 dc in next ch-3 sp. Rep from * around. Join. 26 - 7 dc petals and 26 sc. 208 sts.

Popcorn FP = Popcorn Front Post. Popcorn stitch. Work 4 dc around sc in rnd below. Drop the loop from the hook, insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of the group, grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch, ch 1 to close.

21st rnd: Sl st to the first back post of the 2nd dc of petal. Ch 3 (counts as dcbp), 1 dcbp around next 4 dc. Sk next dc. 1 popcorn fp around next sc in rnd below between petals. *Skip next dc, 1 dcbp around next 5 dc. Sk next dc. 1 popcorn fp around next sc in rnd below between petals. Rep from * around. Join. 26 - 5 dc back post petals and 26 popcorn. 156 sts.

22nd rnd: Ch 3, 1 dcbp around next 11 sts, 2 dcbp around next st. *1 dcbp around next 12 sts, 2 dcbp around next st. Rep from * around. Join. 168 dcbp.

23rd rnd: Ch 3, 1 dc in next 5 dcbp, 2 dc in next dcbp. *1 dc in next 6 dcbp, 2 dc in next dcbp. Rep from * around. Join. 192 dc.

24th rnd: Ch 1, 1 sc in each st around. Join. 192 sc.

Big V-sts = (1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc) in assigned st.

25th rnd: Ch 6 (counts as 1 dc and ch-3 sp), 1 dc in same st. *Sk next 2 sc, big v-sts in next. Rep from *around. Join. 64 big v-sts.

26th rnd: Sl st to next ch-3 sp. Ch 1, 1 sc in same sp. 7 dc in next sp. *1 sc in next sp, 7 dc in next sp. Rep from * around. Join. 32 - 7 dc petals and 32 sc.

Dcbp V-st = (1 dcbp, ch 3, 1 dcbp) around same st.

27th rnd: Sl st to the back post of sc from rnd below. Ch 6 (counts as dcbp and ch-3 sp, 1 dcbp around same sc. Ch 5. *Dcbp v-st around next sc after 7 dc petal. Ch 5. Rep from * around. Join. 32 ch-5 sps and 32 dcbp v-sts.

In the next round, you need to trap the chain and use the middle dc of a 7 dc petal 2 rnds below.

28th rnd: Sl st to next ch-3 sp. Ch 3, 8 dc in same ch-3 sp, 1 sc in 4th dc of 7 dc in 2nd rnd, working sc over ch-5 of previous rnd. *9 dc in next ch-3 sp, 1 sc in 4th dc of 7 dc in 2nd rnd, working sc over ch-5 of previous rnd. Rep from * around. Join. 32 petals and 32 sc.

29th rnd: Ch 1, 1 dcfp around the sc you just past. Sk next dc, 1 dcbp around next 7 dc, sk next dc. 1 dcfp around next sc. *Sk next dc, 1 dcbp around next 7 dc, sk next dc. 1 dcfp around next sc. Rep from * around. Join. Break B. 256 dc.

30th rnd: Ch 1, 1 sc in same st, 1 sc in next 6 dcbp. .Sk next dcfp. *1 sc in next 7 dcbp, sk next dcfp. Rep from * around. 224 sc.

31st rnd: Ch 3, 1 dc in next 6 sc, 2 dc in next sc. *1 dc in next 7 sc, 2 dc in next sc. Rep from * around. Join. 252 dc.

32nd rnd: Ch 1, 1 sc in same st, 1 sc in next 7 dc, 2 sc in next dc. *1 sc next 8 dc, 2 sc in the next dc. Rep from * around. Join. Break A. 280 sts.

TURN. Using Wrong Side next rnd.

33rd rnd: Join A to the wrong side of blanket to any dc. Ch 1, cluster in same st, ch 3, cluster again in same st. *Sk 3 sc, (cluster, ch 3, cluster ) in next st. Rep from * around. Join to top of beg cluster. Break. B. 70 clusters.

TURN. Using Right Side next rnd.

34th rnd: Join to the right side of the blanket to any ch-3 sp. Ch 3, 3 dc in same sp. 5 dc in next sp. *4 dc in next sp, 5 dc in next sp. Rep from * around. Join. 315 dc. 35 groups of 4 dc and 35 groups of 5 dc.
