What a great evening project, and one that gave me a lot of self-satisfaction. I had Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo in Bright Stripe on hand. I used just over half of a ball to make this delightful crochet cowl.
I used an existing pattern called the Bernat Cowl, which originally used Bernat Premium yarn. I thought, "What if I tried this yarn instead to see what it looks like?"
This uses a combination of two stitches side by side. It's single crochet and treble crochet alternating. The cowl has two rows, but once you understand it, put the pattern away and enjoy it.
Do you want to change the size? You can by chaining in multiples of 2, or an even number. Easy peasy!
The original only has you doing 8", and you will notice the model and my sample have the top turned inward.
Due to the colouring of the yarn, the colours just work out wonderfully. Happy stitching for you and I.

This is a great sample to travel with and through as part of your coat accessories or as an accessory to brighten your day.
