Crochet Socks for Beginners
This is a fabulous beginner project for beginners to crochet socks for the entire family. The pattern is provided in 2/4 years, 6/8 years, ladies ⅚, ladies ⅞ and mens sizes.
The pattern works from the toe up. Meaning you start at the toe and work towards the cuff of the top of the socks. For me, I like to work on socks in this direction verses cuff down. Just a personal choice.
In the tutorial provided below, I take you through the pattern doing the 2/4 years of sizes. As I state in the tutorial, if you are doing other sizes, just substitute my instructions with counts and measurements that reflect the size you are working on. The placement of the stitch markers and steps involved, as there are 6 steps total, are what matter the most.
So if you want to play along. Look above and click "GET PATTERN" and follow this tutorial using the sizes shown in the pattern. It's rare for me to do sock tutorials, hopefully this will help those who have been emailing us.
We also have socks for Babies with a matching tutorial. Get my free pattern and tutorial here for those.

Hi Mikey,
My two balls of patron kroy are not exactly the same color. If you were to do half of a sock in one color and the rest in another color, at what point in the pattern would you consider halfway? Or how would you suggest working with two different colors? I'm doing the size 5/6. Thank you!
Mikey says
It's trendy not to have matching socks, especially in handmade. 🙂 I would do one of each colour. 🙂

HELP! For the round after the toe widening, the round you repeat for the lengthening of the foot, how does it begin? I am stuck!
Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of round.
Does this mean you don’t put a sc in the stitch with the chain? Thanks for your help.

Hi. Would like to have a go at these but can't find the pattern for the ladies 7-8
Mikey says
The pattern that is linked has the 7/8 size in fuscia colouring. Each of the sizes are represented by a colour of print in the pattern.

Hi Mikey,
I really admire your sock crochet videos. They are so helpful for a beginner like me. For this pair of socks would the largest size work for my husband who wears a size 12 shoe? What modifications, if any would you recommend for a male who has an other than average sized foot? Thank you for your excellent tutorials! ?

That's one thing I don't know about. I never studied clothing design. I went through engineering. I don't have the skill set to design clothing or altering patterns like this because the anatomy of sizing changes not only in lengths but also in circumference. I really don't know the answer to be frank. I would think about trying to locate a free sock pattern in that size of other designs and see what they are adjusting. I think that would be a safe bet.
