Rage can be misunderstood as a negative emotion, especially in 2023. Anger can activate parts of your brain that are hard to access if you are calm or level-headed. You've seen rage tweeting and rage on social media, I am sure. The Study of Rage Crochet Bernat Blanket is ready for free download.
Usually, when I hit emotional roadblocks, it is being upset, withdrawing, binge eating and bottling my feelings inside. Hook your way through your anger and hurt with this crochet blanket. The pattern is easy stitch repeating in a circle. For me, it takes a day to make. Don't keep holding onto the anger and push it out through your hook.
In August 2023, I hit a roadblock that sent me into a fury rage. Daniel prefers I release the anger than bottle it.
Daniel, a former musician, played his best when angry. He caused him to focus all of his energy on his hands and pour it through the music that came from the instruments he played.
You can hear Daniel playing the majestic pipe organ in the piece below. When he stepped on the petals to send the vibrations of the church, it pulsed through people's bodies. Daniel used to do pre-service practicing on the organ, and people would show up to hear him practice for things that never were presented in the services. If you get to the 4:42 minute mark of the video, you can hear him step on the pedals and push the limits of creative playing.
Daniel could play the violin, viola, gumba, harpsichord, piano and pipe organ. This is part of his past. The entire video below is him playing.
Daniel retired the music back in 2016.
#studyofrageblanket
Triggered by anger, I decided to design a crochet blanket that has stitches I love and not worry about what others think.
I sat in my chair with such anger that I took it out on a scrap paper and with my crochet hook using Red Heart Super Saver Brushed yarn. I used 2 balls of Soft Mink and 2 balls of Shale for this example. This is 38" diameter. I had the intention of blowing this up to Bernat Blanket but I wanted to try this concept that was firing out of my head.
Rounds 1 to 21 are using Soft Mink.
- Rnds 1 to 21 use Soft Mink.
- Rnds 22 to 29 use Shale.
- Rnds 30 to 35 use Soft Mink.
- Rnds 36 and 37 finish with Soft Mink.
The final pattern will be written for Bernat Blanket yarn. I picked up the yarn at Michaels and may not be available through Yarnspirations as each retailer has their own colour shades. I used 2 balls each of Vapor Gray, Misty Green and Pale Gray. The finished sample is 62" diameter.
OPTIONAL VERSIONS
All samples used the exact same pattern and just changed the yarn and hook size.
Juliana Meilton did my pattern with #10 crochet thread. Her version ended up being 15" diameter. She used a 2.5 mm / B crochet hook. She had a spool of 600 grams and it was more than enough.
Mikey's tutorial version used Patons Grace yarn. In the colour called Fiesta. It took 4.25 balls and used a 3 mm / D crochet hook. It was 22" in diameter.
The original sample was using Red Heart Super Saver Brushed. It used a 5 mm / H/8 hook. It was 38" diameter. I used 2 balls of Soft Mink and 2 balls of Shale for this example.
The largest sample was using Bernat Blanket. It took 6 balls, 2 each of 3 colours. It was 62" in diameter. It used a 10 mm / N crochet hook.
We also have a worsted weight version of this blanket. It measures 58" diameter and using Red Heart Super Saver Brushed yarn.

Hook
Use 10 mm / N Crochet Hook with Bernat Blanket. I used 5 mm / H/8 for the Red Heart Super Saver Brushed version.
Gauge for the Bernat Blanket = 10 mm / N/15 = 8 sc and 7 rows = 4” [10 cm].
Gauge for the Red Heart Super Saver Brushed = 5 mm / H/8 = 14 sc and 15 rows = 4” [10 cm].
Yarn
Bernat Blanket, 10.5 oz / 300 g, 220 yds / 201 metres. Colours shown were available at Michaels.

Instructions
The centre of this project is inspired by Nanette M. Seale, designer for the Floral Beauty Afghan. Rounds 1 to 10 are the exact same as this sample and a tutorial is provided for the Floral Beauty Afghan if you need it. Follow the colour sequence below for the colouring in the written instructions.

On row 13 somehow I ended up with 6 extra chain one spaces.
I am not sure if my stitch count was off before that. I thought I had been keeping track but thank you for the counts. I fudged it to make it back on track
Teresa says
Row 33 says to turn work and connect to any dc, it row 32 was single crochet. Are we working into row 31, or should it say connect to any sc?
Mikey says
Should say connect to SC. Good eye.
Mikaela says
Small correction in row 7, it says "join to the stop of any cluster. " Should be top instead of stop. I think...
