Developed in 2012, the Crochet Mermaid Purse was the first pattern of two that was used for testing between The Crochet Crowd and Yarnspirations. It was divided into parts for a tutorial, as in 2012, the videos on YouTube could only be 15 minutes long. We've come a long way, technology-wise.
This is using Bernat Super Value yarn. At the time, in 2012, the crochet crocodile stitch or known as the scale stitch was beginning to start raging. Like the scarf pattern using Bernat Mosiac yarn that was discontinued in 2013. The texture was so kewl.
I recently created the Mermaid Breasted Cowl that has a closed front section to provide extra warmth to the chest inside a jacket.
Behind the Scenes
The trial was rocky, and I didn't continue with Yarnspirations. The flair of my videos using slang and side advice not in the pattern caused a lot of friction. Social media hadn't yet been established, and Yarnspirations was still creating leaflets and books and not ready to move onto video format. I'm already four years into video creation by this stage.
By 2014, Yarnspirations was starting to transition to using social media and beginning to put more time into the online world. I moved over to Yarnspirations in 2015 and we began building resources together. The rest is history.
What was a hang-up in 2012 eventually became a strength for the individual teachers to have their personalities, teaching styles and more. Each person's uniqueness is their asset.
The second pattern was the crochet doily pillow pattern. The pattern is in archive format but still available here at The Crochet Crowd. It was my first time using crochet thread and it was a big of a challenge.

Thanks to a friend at the Yarn Circle I go to, she showed ths to me and told me to watch Mikey and The Crochet Crowd. I am a Beginner even though I've been crocheting for many years. I have stuck to the pattern books and have not explored the creativity of my chosen craft, and I'm only 72. Yes, I loved the article. It was easy to learn because the instructions were clear and easy to follow. And I would like to be able to make a few bags to sell. Thank you.

I made one of these over winter. Mine is red, black, and white. I have gotten so many comments on it, even several offers to buy it from me.
