Patons Free Crochet Snowflake Doily Pattern with Tutorial and Diagrams

Only one ball of Patons Grace in the colour called Snow will do up this 9.5" diameter crochet snowflake doily. It's a simple 4 round crochet snowflake pattern with the other snowflakes attaching to the existing snowflakes as you go—no sewing is involved.

Provided in this free pattern called Crochet Snowflake Doily pattern are two crochet diagrams to illustrate the stitchwork. I did this sample in about two hours with my home stitch group during stitch night.

Patons Grace, 50 g/1.75 oz, 125 m/136 yds

Snow - 1 Ball

Hook: 2.5 mm / C

Gauge: 16 sc and 17 rows = 4” [10 cm]

Size: Snowflakes are 4.5” wide. Doily is 9.5” diameter. 

Abbreviations List

  • Beg = Begin(ing)
  • Ch = Chain
  • Hdc = Half Double crochet
  • Dc = Double crochet
  • Rem = Remain(ing)
  • Rnd(s) = Round(s)
  • RS = Right side
  • Sc = Single crochet
  • Sk = Skip
  • Sl st = Slip stitch
  • Sp(s) = Space(es)
  • St(s) = Stitch(es)
  • WS = Wrong side

TIP: Each ball has two snowflakes. The second snowflake has a different 4th round to attach to the first one, encasing the Christmas ball ornament inside. 

Ch 6. Join with a sl st to form ring. 

1st rnd: Ch 3 (counts as dc). 11 dc in ring; join with a slip st in first dc. 12 dc. 

2nd rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in first st, (ch 3, sc in next sc) 11 times. Join with hdc to the top of ch-3 in 1st rnd. (counts as ch-3 sp) to beg sc. 12 ch-3 sps and 12 sc. 

3rd rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc over the side of hdc post, *(2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next space**, sc in next sp; rep from * around, ending last repeat at **. Join with a sl st in first sc. 6 points established.

4th rnd: *Ch 2, (sc, ch 3, sc, ch 3, sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch-3 space, ch 2**, sl st in next sc; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **; join with sl st in sl st of last rnd. Break yarn. Weave in ends. 

Use the first motif as the centre of your doily and attach the others surrounding it. 

2nd and Other Snowflakes

Substitute the ch 5 at the tips of the snowflake to have the 3rd ch replaced with a slip stitch to a joining snowflake.
