Poinsettia Granny Square
I was really inspired for a Poinsettia looking granny square and recognized a design concept from the Yarnspirations library that could be modified to pull off the idea.
The original pattern is called the Elegant Floral Afghan. You can see for yourself the look if you want to go for that type of afghan.
I've been working with a lot of Caron Simply Soft Party Yarn lately. I was inspired to make the same square look like a poinsettia. A decent size afghan with this square would be about 20 squares.

Hi there, I am battling with point 6. what is the aka DC stitch?
Thank you Nellie Hunter

it's the chain stitch side of the DC in the petal...so you could call it the 6th chain, or you could call it the chain stitch at the base of the DC...hope that helps.

Mikey, u read my mind!!! I used to make granny squares years ago, but got tired of them & haven't done them in years. Recently I stumbled upon some incredible US & UK crochet blog sites where folks are designing & crocheting incredible crochet blocks & granny squares unlike any I've ever seen in my life. And, I've also loved the squares/blocks from your recent Crochet Along Projects too! I was so inspired I've begun to do crochet blocks again, beginning w/ using your great tutorial for the Yarnspirations "Circle In Square" afghan pattern. I made that afghan in my own color choices & was thrilled w/it. And I've bought some great crochet block/granny square e-books too.
I wanted to make a Christmas afghan & decided on a poinsettia block/granny square. I've looked for a poinsettia square pattern & found a few, but none I really loved. But, this granny square that you've adapted is perfect for my project! Again, thank you for finding it, adapting it (saved me the time & trouble!) & even making a tutorial. It's my lucky day!
