Try this simple Crochet Braided hat with ear flaps and braids. The yarn is bulky and has wool for warmth. Due to the bulky yarn, this pattern hooks up really quickly. Pattern was updated on March 28, 2025.

The yarn used was Schachenmayr Boston Yarn, part of the My Mountain series of yarns.

This yarn has been discontinued. Use #5 Chunky Weight Yarn when doing this pattern.

As simple as this pattern is, I couldn't make the stitch count work according to pattern. Thank goodness for this video. I wasn't doing anything wrong. Now to finally get going on the hat.

Hey Mikey I love to watch your videos. The problem I have with the USA peak is the stitch count no matter how many times I try I don't end up with a single double crochet I always seem to end the round with 2dc. What am I doing wrong???

I agree the stitch count is wrong in this written pattern.
      It should read
      R1 8 stitches
      R2 16 St
      R3 24st
      R4 32 St
      R5 40 St
      R6 48 St
      Remaining rows 48 st

Wow... this pattern is so old and yet you found this critical error. The company this came from went out of business about 10 years ago. I was able to go in and edit the pdf. Great eye to catch that. I verified your count as well.

I just wanted to let you know that I truly enjoy all of your lessons and I have learned and gotten lots of ideas from them. Also, I want to wish you all the best of every little thing that your heart desires for the holidays and all the year.
