When working with multiple colours in one project, I get paranoid that I will insert the wrong colour in the wrong place when following a pattern.
In patterns, colours are represented by letters of the alphabet. I show the idea on my Red Heart Soft labels below.
Example
Red Heart Soft, 141 g/5 oz, 234 meters/256 yards.
A - Off White
B - Rose Blush
In this pattern, I have multiple colours that look similar, such as tinges of green and off-whites to wheat colour. I am most likely to make a mistake, especially while watching TV.
I go through the pattern first and then grab the yarn I want. I then write the alphabet number on the ball band so I don't have to look for the small writing of the colours. The pattern will say something like 'With A..." instead of going back to the pattern to figure out what A is again, the ball is already labeled with A so I can trust in it.
This simple yet effective trick will save you time and most likely not make errors in a pattern colour lineup.
This tip is handy to know for free patterns like The Study of Possibilities where a lot of colours are used.
