Today I'm excited to introduce the crochet 2 + 4 Crochet Afghan.  Based on Lucky 7 to make it easier to count. This simple classic will surely become a regular in your collection of crochet projects.

First of all, you are probably wondering why I've called it a 2 + 4 Afghan. My secret is that I love to count when I stitch, and when it's a simple count, I can hook very fast. So while crocheting this afghan, I counted 1, 2 and 1, 2, 3, 4... over and over! Michael was recently questioned about crocheters and counting.

If you like this, you may love our Lucky 7 in the same concept but square.

From the middle, afghans are my favorite stitch.  Squares are my preference, but I do get so many requests for rectangle-shaped ones that I decided to give this one a go, combining filet into a granny-like afghan.  I kept to the 2 + 4 theme with my colours, only needing three balls of Caron One Pound yarn to crochet this easy blanket.  The free download includes a diagram for the blanket by Michael if you prefer the charts over the written instructions.

This blanket can also be adjusted to its rectangular size based on Michael's math for creating rectangular granny afghans.  Use the multiples of 6 chs + 7 to change your rectangle following the suggested starting chains from the article: Rectangle Granny Afghans: All Sizes Pattern.

I tried the beginning chain multiples as suggested (6 x 4 + 7 for a total of 31 chains) for a slightly smaller size than the written pattern provided (beg chain of 37) but it wasn't coming out right. I finally stopped frogging my work and drew rough diagrams with starting chain counts of 31, 25 (6 x 3 + 7) and 43 (6 x 6 + 7) to see if I was doing something wrong; none of them came out like the pattern. I've checked and rechecked the video tutorial to make sure I didn't miss anything. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I will recheck the multiples. I didn't check this before it went out as Jeanne is usually spot on. I will open the diagram and see if I can figure it out.

You're right. It's 8 + 13. We have to update the pattern and I have turned off the tutorial as the detail is wrong on screen. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks, Jeanne!!! I love your afghans and headbands too. Can't wait for the video to be released! Right now it says Private so I'm assuming it's coming soon. Love how this looks and it seems to be another easy one to follow. ?
