Crochet Elizabeth Stitch + Diagram and Tutorial

The underrated stitch is the Crochet Elizabeth Stitch, an easy repeat and effective way to thicken up your crochet without much effort. Easy stitch this up pretty quickly without much effort to count stitches.

The hook wrapping makes a difference with this easy-going stitch. The placement below is easy to see, even with Bernat Blanket yarn. I'm currently working on a palliative care blanket with this stitch. Once completed, the blanket will be in our palliative section.

This includes a download with the written instructions, crochet diagram, and crochet tutorial.

This pattern can be done with any yarn or hook size as long as the hook compliments each other.

Abbreviations

Ch = Chain

Elizabeth Stitch = Insert hook in assigned stitch. Yarn over and pull through stitch. Yarn over and insert into same stitch, yarn over and pull through stitch. - 4 loops on hook. Yarn over and pull through all four loops. Chain 1. DO NOT chain 1 if the last stitch is an Elizabeth Stitch in a row.

Sc = Single Crochet

St(s) = Stitch(es)

The Elizabeth Stitch requires you to skip a stitch in the row below. Once the row below is an Elizabeth Stitch, you insert your hook into the eye of the stitch. If you cannot see it, see the tutorial for the location.

Stitch multiples are 2 chains + 4.

Instructions

Ch in multiples of 2 chs + 4.

1st row: 1 sc 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch across. Turn.

2nd row: Ch 3 (doesn’t count as stitch). Elizabeth stitch in the same beg st. *Sk next st, Elizabeth stitch in the next st. Rep from * across. Do not chain one on the last Elizabeth stitch in the row. Turn.

3rd row: Ch 3 (doesn't count as stitch). Elizabeth stitch in the eye of the Elizabeth Stitch below. Rep the Elizabeth stitch across. Do not chain one on the last Elizabeth stitch in the row. Turn.

4th row and beyond: Rep 3rd row.

Last row: Ch 1, 1 sc in each Elizabeth stitch and ch-1 sp across. Fasten off.

    Great pattern, going to try this soon. There is a row of directions missing though. Row 2 should tell you how to do the first row of the Elizabeth stitch. Instead it says to repeat the Elizabeth stitch in the row below….which is only SC at this point. Your diagram is correct, the written direction is just missing the actual first row of the Elizabeth stitch. Love your patterns, thanks for your work on these. Now back to my CAL!

    So am I understanding it correctly? It's essentially a (sc dc together) stitch then? With a ch 1 after to lock. It's easier for me to remember if can break the named stitches down into their individual parts so I want to make sure I've got it right. Thanks.

      No, it's really like a puff stitch or a bean stitch.
