Stitch counts in the repeat provided in the free download. However, they haven't been tested as it's all mathematically figured out. The blanket has been in service for a few years and people are wanting the stitch counts per round. I had to make my best guess as the sample has been given away. - Mikey

Crochet Gigi's Block Party Blanket

I hope you enjoy crocheting this new blanket today, Gigi's Block Party Blanket.  It's another combination of my two best patterns - The Hugs & Kisses Blanket and the Modern Granny!

Keeping up with my love for self-striping yarn, I chose to use Bernat POP! in Blue Streak for this blanket.  I used nine balls to crochet this blanket to a finished size of 56" square.

• Beg - Beginning

• Dc - Double crochet

Special Stitches

• X-St - Skip next stitch and place dc; dc into skipped stitch.
• Popcorn - Work 4 dc into the next st, drop the loop from the hook, insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of the group, grab the dropped loop and pull it through the stitch; 1 pc made.

Instructions

Start with the Modern Granny section.

Ch 4; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring, or use a magic circle.

Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), 2 dc in ring, ch 1 [3 dc in ring, ch 1] 3 times; join with sl st to top of beg ch. - Four 3-dc groups, 4 ch-1 sps.

Rnd 2: Sl st in next 2 dc, [(sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch-1 sp (corner made), ch 3] 4 times; join with sl st in first sc. - 4 corners, 4 ch-3 sps.

Rnd 3: (Sl st, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in first corner ch-3 sp, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp, [(3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next corner ch-3 sp, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp] 3 times; join with sl st to top of beg ch. - 4 corners, four 3-dc groups.

Rnd 4: Sl st in next 2 dc, *(sc, ch 3, sc) in next corner ch-1 sp, ch 3, sc in next sp between corner and next 3-dc group, ch 3, sc in next sp between next 3-dc group and corner, ch 3; rep from * 3 more times; join with sl st in first sc. - 4 corners, 12- ch-3 sps.

Rnd 5: (Sl st, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in first corner ch-3 sp, 3 dc in next 3 ch-3 sps, *(3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next corner ch-3 sp, 3 dc in next 3 ch-3 sps; rep from * 2 more times; join with sl st to top of beg ch. - 4 corners, 12 - 3-dc groups.

Transition into Hugs & Kisses section.

Rnd 6: Sl st in next 2 dc, (sl st, ch 1, 2 sc) in first corner sp, sc in each st to next ch-1 sp, *3 sc in ch-1 sp, sc in each st to ch-1 sp; rep from * 2 more times, sc in same sp as beg 2 sc, sl st to beg sc. - 72 sc

*This is when I like to place a stitch marker in the middle stitch of each corner from here out to keep track of the center stitch.

Rnd 7: Ch 3, 2 dc in same st as join, dc in each st to marked corner, *5 dc in corner st, dc in each st to marked corner; rep from * twice more, 2 dc in same st as beg ch 3, sl st to beg ch 3. - 88 dc

Rnd 8: Ch 1, 2 sc in first st, sc in each st to the marked corner, *3 sc in corner st, sc in each st to marked corner; rep from * twice more, sc in same st as beg st, sl st to beg st. - 96 sc

Rnd 9: Ch 3 (counts as dc now and throughout), 2 dc in same st as join, dc in next st, [*sk next st, dc in next st, dc in skipped st (X-st), rep from * to marked corner st], **5 dc in corner, dc in next st, X-st to next marked corner; rep from ** twice more, 2 dc in same st as beg 3 dc, sl st to beg dc. - 44 X-st, 20 corner dc

Rnd 10: Rep rnd 8. - 120 sc
