I had 6 Caron Cakes and was looking for a quick and easy pattern for a blanket to make with little time left before the holidays.  I found this free pattern on the Yarnspirations website called Earthly Tones Octagonal Afghan.

The original pattern called for Caron One Pound Yarn Skeins, but I think the Caron Cakes makes a fun substitute for this design.  And since I think weaving in color change ends takes up too much time, my finished project still has a fun look without all the work.  I barely worked into the 6th Cake, so if you only have 5, just leave off one row.  I used a 5mm H crochet hook and by blanket measured 65″ across.

This pattern is a neat design to blend whatever color scheme you would like to match for your own home.  I think round afghans are just very welcoming.

On a extra personal note, I gave this to a special friend and she absolutely loved it.  There is nothing that warms my heart more than sharing my crochet this way. 💖
