A couple of evenings of stitching to complete a fast project may be just the ticket to put your binge-worthy TV watching to good use. Unlike the USA, where there is a strong sense of red, white and blue, Canadians use Red, White and Gray or Red, White or Black. I have loaded this article with free downloadable pattern and tips.
This is the True, North, Strong and Free Crochet Scarf.
Being Canadian, my new scarf design gives me a sense of comfort and home. Unfortunately, I used a discontinued Bernat Softee Chunky Twist 300 gram ball but a good substitute would be regular Bernat Softee Chunky 100 gram. I have detailed that the pattern.
Additional Tips
There are visual queues to help you see if you are doing things right. The pattern looks more complicated than it is.
- You will see 8 raised ridges before you start a white section. You will be able to count them on the right side (RS) of the work.
- The main colour, slate in this case, is done on the back loops only but there is an exception.
- The first row after the white 4 rows are done just uses regular stitches so it will keep the ridging looking even.
- The first row after a white section is in the regular stitch with the main colour to look more eye-pleasing.
Once you see the repeating section, the yarns of the colouring always change on the same side of the scarf. This will help you to make sure you stay in alignment.
There are 15 sets of tassels per side using the whine colour. You see my elastic in this picture as it was my stitch marker to identify the right side of the work. I strongly recommend using a stitch marker as stated in the pattern.

Rep 18th to 39th rows - 4 more times. Fasten off.
Make 30 tassels. (15 per side). Each tassel is made of 3 strands of C that is 12” long. Attach with a looped formation to the right side of the scarf.
Steam or wet block the tassels to straighten and then trim evenly. Scarf is also steamed or wet block for best look.

If you want to sew on a crochet maple leaf to your new scarf, you can use the remaining C colour, wine, to make a leaf. Tutorial is included to help you as well.

Hi, Mikey!
Just to clarify, what is a "regular stitch"? I'm thinking single crochet. It's a beautiful scarf. Thanks for it.

It means you are not using a back or front loop. Just the normal stitch itself.
