Original crochet baby blanket designed in blue with the Hugs and Kisses stitch sequence with Caron Big Cakes, this textured pattern lends itself to amazing colour possibilities. With an easy repeating stitch to adjust the sizing provided, you can colour it in anyway you wish. This is the Little Boy Blue Crochet Baby Blanket.

Maybe choose fun birthday cake colours or more neutral, it's a winner every time. This pattern also includes a border which the original chevron version didn't.

This blanket is a redesign of my Hugs & Kisses Baby Crochet Blanket.  Many of you wrote to me saying you loved the texture but didn't like the chevron style.  Also, many wanted a border, so this one has an interesting border added.  So you can enjoy the texture of the blanket without the stress of the chevron.

How To Crochet Hugs & Kisses Baby Blanket + Tutorial

The title of Little Boy Blue Blanket was just a fun name. The colours are subjective to your creativity and wishes.

I used 2 ½ Caron Big Cakes in Blue Macaron for this pretty blue blanket.  The blanket could be easily made bigger using multiples of 6 + 4.  The finished size of this one is 32" x 39".  You can also substitute your favourite worsted weight yarn in any colour combo or solid if you prefer.

Colour Play Options

You can choose to colour-play the project instead of letting the colours come out of a Caron Big Cakes. Those colour options are shown here and listed in the free download pattern. I used Caron One Pound with Soft Pink, Soft Sage, Sky Blue and Cream.

Instructions

Ch 118 or multiples of 6 + 4.

1st row: (WS) 1 dc in 4th ch from hook and each ch across. Turn. 116 dc.

2nd row: (RS) Ch 1. 1 sc in each st across. Turn. 116 sc.

3rd row: Ch 3 (counts as DC here and throughout), *sk next st, 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in skipped st; rep from * to end, 1 dc in last st. Turn. 57 x-st, 2 dc.

4th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st across. Turn. 116 sc.

5th row: Ch 2 (does not count as st). 1 hdc in first 2 sts, *dc5tog in next st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts; rep from to end. Turn. 38 bobbles, 78 hdc.

6th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st across. Turn. 116 sc.

7th row: Ch 3. *sk next st, 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in skipped st; rep from * to end, 1 dc in last st. Turn. 57 x-st, 2 dc.

8th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st across. Turn. 116 sc.

9th row: Ch 3. 1 dc in each st across. 116 dc.

Repeat rows 2 to 9 until 81 rows are complete.

Border

Begin working in rounds.

Rnd 1: Sc in end of each row and sides, placing 3 sc in each corner. Sl st to first sc. Turn.

Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in each st around, placing 5 dc in each corner. Turn.

Rnd 3: Sc in each st around, placing 3 sc in each corner If you are not in a corner at this point, I’d suggest breaking yarn and placing yourself in the corner to start next
round.

Rnd 4: 3 sc in corner, sc in next 3 sts, [FPtr (front post treble) 2 rows below and 2 sts ahead, FPtr 2 rows below, FPtr 2 rows below and 2 sts behind, sc in next st], rep [ ] until 2 sts from corner, sc in next 2, 3 sc in corner; rep for all 4 sides, sl st to beg sc. If you have to alter to fit by adding or decreasing a sc on any side, that’s fine. Don’t stress over stitch counts. One of my sides was a bit different for some reason but no one will ever know.

Rnd 5: 3 sc in corner, sc in next 4 sts, *now working behind your crossed sts, 3 dc in center sc of round 3, sc in next sc of round 4; rep to corner, 3 sc in corner; rep all 4 sides, sl st to beg sc. Turn.

Rnd 6: 3 hdc in corner, hdc in next 5 sts, *dc5tog in next st, hdc in next 3 sts; rep to corner, 3 hdc in corner; rep all 4 sides, sl st to beg hdc. Turn.

Rnd 7: Sc in each st around, placing 3 sc in each corner. Fasten off.

Hi, I think there might be a problem with the math of the first row (I've been struggling with getting it right for 2 days now 😂). I think it should be multiples of 6 only (instead of 6 + 4). Due to the extra 2 hdc at the end of the bobble row. The bobble row works in multiples of three plus 2 extra to finish the row. That would make the initial chain 6 (pattern repeat) + 4 (chain as first dc in next row) + 2 (balance the bobble row pattern). So that would make the multiples 6 even.

*Just thought I would add this because I've been struggling to get the math to work.

Sorry, my comment was not suppose to be the reply to yours and I'm not sure how to fix it 🙂
