61 Indoor Decor Snowflake Patterns + Recipe to Make Them Stiff

With festive feelings in the air and the big guy in red about to climb down the chimney, smaller projects are in order. As a male crocheter, I appreciate home decor a lot. I don't have to worry about my belt size for wearables.

Decorations like this are reusable and can create a family pass-down item. Most of these snowflakes are hardened for hangable. I have provided more information below on hardening them up.

There are 10 Crochet Snowflakes for consideration; two of the patterns have multiple patterns inside the same PDF.

Hardening Up Crochet Flowers / Snowflakes

I have used two different ways of stiffening snowflakes. Like anything in life, people have their preferred methods. Stiffening solutions can also be found at the craft store. I've had better luck with my homemade solutions than purchasing fabric stiffener at Walmart.

They can be enjoyed for years to come.

Corn Starch & Water Method

• Mix 50% water with 50% Corn Starch.
• Bring mixture to a boil. Turn off heat and let cool down so you don't burn yourself.
• Once cooled down, dip the project into the solution.
• Do not wring out the project but just pat down on the project between paper towels or rag to get an extra solution out.
• Lay on the waxed paper, shape, sprinkle with glitter and let natural air dry.
• The corn starch will crystalize stiffing up the fibre.

Before and After

Corn starch will leave a white residue onto the snowflakes but if using white, it's not a deal-breaker.

Elmer's Glue & Water

You can also stiffen using white Elmer's Glue or 100% glue.

Backing Board

If you need to force the shape as the snowflake won't stay.

1. Get some styrofoam.
2. Lay a sheet of waxed paper over the styrofoam.
3. If you are dipping the project, dip the project and remove excess liquid.
4. Lay on the sheet and use pins to hold down critical areas where the shape needs to be held.
5. Let naturally air dry. Remove pins and enjoy them.

Option 1 - Dip the Project

1. Make a 50% water & 50% glue formula. Just add to each other and mix.
2. Dip the project into the formula. Do not wring out but just squish to remove excess liquid.
3. Lay on waxed paper and shape.

Option 2 - Paint On 100% White Glue

1. If needed for shaping, use a backboard so you can apply pins. Pin down the project.
2. Paint on 100% glue to the project. Let glue soak into the fibres
3. If desired at the end of the paint job, sprinkle glitter.
4. Let natural air dry.
5. Remove pins. Turn over and paint glue again on the backside. Apply sprinkles again.
6. Let natural air dry.

Crochet Delicate Snowflake

The Crochet Delicated Snowflake is definitely eye-popping. The sizing is magnificent but also the peaks of the flakes with the additional 5 sided flower-like petals are just amazing.

Definitely an intermediate level crocheter and yes, you need to stiffen these snowflakes to enjoy.

I grew up with a dishwasher for the second half of my childhood years. So on my first date at someone's home, I said, as dinner was done, "Where is your dishwasher?"

They laughed and said, "You're looking at 'em!" 

The Crochet Snowflake Dishcloth is a fun representation of the festive season and winter ahead. Some people really like to get into the holiday spirit and decorate with little touches like this dishcloth.

Crochet Lacy Snowflakes - 2 Designs

The Crochet Lacy Snowflake pattern has 2 designs on one pattern. Speaking truth, Snowflake #2 is the easier one of the two. It's an intermediate level project which shouldn't scare you too much. After all, there's a tutorial to use.

For hanging to enjoy, be sure to stiffen the snowflakes up. If you prefer not to stiffen, you can use them as a base beneath a plant or vase as well. Snowflakes aren't just for Christmas, you can enjoy them well into the winter season.

Crochet Lacy Snowflake

I think of the many snowflakes this year, I like the Crochet Lacy Snowflake the best. The openness of the 6 spokes really appeals to my sense of decorations. It seems to highlight the stitchwork all the more.

The centre spoke-like appearance is also unique and the ring that you can hang it from is also well thought out.

Overall 10 out of 10 for my personal favourite of 2019.

Crochet Lovely Snowflake

The Crochet Lovely Snowflake is more traditional in appearance. Almost like a striking spider web with crystal picot edges at the point as the water is turning to ice.

Hardening up these lovely snowflakes and adding a touch of glitter would be really sharp looking. You could enjoy these for years and years.

Crochet Flurry of Snowflakes - 4 Designs

To say these 4 designs are delicate is an understatement. The Flurry of Snowflake Designs is truly something. When completed these ones should be handled like the pinned down version of hardening these up. You will need to be strategic in pinning to showcase the lovely intricate details of these.

Crochet-wise, the easy level is in order and you may have to be creative to look at this strategically because it's easy to see where the stitchwork goes after hardening but while crocheting, it will be soft and delicate. The easy-level classification surprises me a bit, but maybe the finished project looks more complicated than it truly is.

I would guess, more concentration is required for these projects.

Crochet Cactus Snowflake

I like colours, I love whimsical ideas, this Crochet Colorful Snowflake has both of those two feelings that I can relate to. The colours tell me that this snowflake isn't so serious but can be displayed to give everyday items, like this cactus a bit of colour.

Not everyone can do a Christmas Tree. In fact, one year, we did a Christmas Tropical Plant. To me, it always feels strange to see hot places with Christmas decorations but what really gets me going is seeing inflatable
